The Manistee News-Advocate no longer has obituaries online. I have no access
to local obituaries at this time.
I have also included deaths reported in neighboring counties - where the
deceased is brought to Manistee County for funeral services. This could indicate
local family, or a burial in this county.
On rare occasions, I may include names from neighboring counties that echo the names of past Manistee Co. residents, just in case the family name might make a connection for a researcher. I cannot prove any connections to Manistee Co., however. I'm just trying to help.

"A former Kewadin resident who attended Elk Rapids schools, Eugene Ruggles died June 3, 2004, in Petaluma, Calif. A Pulitzer Prize nominee, Ruggles wrote "Lifeguard in The Snow" in 1977. His poetry won wide acclaim. Lawrence Ferlinghetti, former poet laureate of San Francisco, said, "His most astounding characteristic is his heart." Ruggles attended the University of Detroit and Lake Superior College, and served in the U.S. Marines." |
