Pioneer Certificate
The Midland Genealogical Society recognizes first families of Midland
County with a Pioneer Certificate. Applicants must be descended from
pioneer settlers who were resident in Midland County prior to January
1900.
The applicant need not presently reside in Michigan. However, descendancy
from the immigrant through the applicant must be proven and submitted
for each generation. Proof must also be submitted to show the earliest
date you have as to when the immigrant actually lived in Midland County.
These proofs should be in the form of
- church records (baptism, marriage,
death)
- courthouse records (birth, marriage, death, land, probate), and/or
- census records
When submitting census proofs, the photocopy must also include the heading
of the census page showing the year, date, and location of the census
(town or township, county, etc.). Only photocopies of proof documents
should be sent, and all copies must be clean and legible. The earliest
date shown on the proof documents will be used to determine eligibility
for the Pioneer Certificate.
Note that certicates received from other societies cannot be accepted
as proof since they will necessarily have different requirements.
Applications are $5.00 per ancestor to cover certification expenses.
