Genealogy Calendar - Michigan ~ This site has changed since I last visited. It is a RootsWeb (supported by Ancestry.com) site with a list and access to various databases. Some of these databases are free access while others require a paid membership. While the MIGenWeb project supports FREE genealogy research there is sometimes valuable information at the membership sites. I have the posting here for your benefit, to access the free information and leave it to your discretion whether you wish to pay for a membership.

This site will be moving to a new address in the near future, so if the link above does not work, try this one www.MemorialLibrary.com

Poorhouses in Michigan - There were a number of homes operated for the care of folks who had no resources for caring for themselves and their families. These were known as "poorhouses", akin to today's homeless shelters, but perhaps better in that they provided full time residence rather than overnight accommodations. I remember my grandmother chastising us when we were young and demanding that she buy us trinkets and candy, "You'll send me to the poorhouse!" I didn't know then that there really were such places. Now I do. A visit to this site is well worth the time, just to learn, if not to locate long lost ancestors.
Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness - Researchers EVERYWHERE waiting to help you find the information you need!
