The settlement in Belvidere township, is known as Six lakes. The village of Six Lakes with it's abundance of lakes, rivers and prime pine and hardwood land was platted near the source of the Flat River on May 13, 1879. A number of saw mills, the railroad and a depot contributed to the permanence of the settlement.
