3 Fires Family
Groupsheet Project
|

Family Group Sheets have been used
for many years in genealogical research to show a
family as a unit and what information you have on
each person. They consist of a husband, wife, and
each of their children. Before computers and even
now genealogists make one of these out in paper form
on each family to keep track of the data they have
collected and what is still needed when out doing
research at the courthouse, library or other research
center. Genealogy societies have long collected them,
to help connect researchers who were searching the
same family. One of my earliest contacts when starting
my family history was due to the use of family group
sheets kept by a society that I contacted in England.
As all genealogy data
you find compiled by others, use these as a resource
for clues, so that you may get a copy of primary source
documentation for your own files. Family Group Sheets
are considered secondary sources in genealogical research.
If you use any of the data found on these pages, please
remember to cite the author as your source.

Instructions
for Submitting Your Family Groupsheet
The chart below is made for a family
of 10 children. To simplify filing these and prevent
duplication, we will only be filing the chart
under the *father's* surname. If there is more
than one marriage, then please do another group
sheet & number it as #2 by husband's name.
- DO NOT
include LIVING PERSONS on these charts
- Put all SURNAMES
in capital letters!
- List all women
under their maiden names, if unknown, then,
please list as such
- Add any additional
information in the area left for notes, below
the children.
- If you can't
use this electronic form, then COPY AND PASTE
this alternate email form
into an E-MAILand
fill in the blanks!
- If you have
an easier (for you) format, I will try my best
to use that. Let me
know first, before you send ANY attachments!
- You are strongly
encouraged to quote your sources on the bottom!!!

USE REPORTS GENERATED
BY YOUR PROGRAM -
Using a software
program to create a family group sheet to put
online:
1. Family Origin
Software - Does well when sending as a text file.
Example Here. Please do not send PDF files.
2. Legacy Software
- Makes excellent family sheets.
3. PAF (Personal
Ancestral File) - Sheets do not transfer to a
format for web pages. Please download Legacy's
or Ancestry's free software to use for making
up sheets to send.
4. Family Tree Maker
- Unknown - The reports that this program creates
are not compatible and can not be used. We suggest
you download either Legacy or Ancestry's Family
Tree Software which are both free, import your
gedcom into them to make reports.
5. Ancestry's Family
Tree Free Software - Does a nice family sheet
from program to save in text and send.your file
(one per e-mail) by e-mail as an attachment to:
baragarose@up.net
Note in the Subject Line: 3 Fires Family Sheet
Attached
Please make sure
you use the above subject line. I have software
that looks at all attachments suspiciously to
avoid worms and viruses, and by having that subject
line I can save the e-mail from being deleted.

In
March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists
organized the Michigan Comprehensive Genealogy
Database. The idea was to provide a single entry
point for all counties in Michigan, where collected
databases would be stored. In addition, the databases
would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even
if an individual were found in more than one county,
they could be located in the index.
At the same time, volunteers were found who were
willing to coordinate the collection of databases
and generally oversee the contents of the web
page. My name is Rose Edwards and I'm responsible
for Native Genealogy in Michigan. Please contact
me if you would like to contribute to this database.
If you would like to host a Michigan county, please
contact Joan
Brausch.
