Seated on the
south shore of Lake Superior is Ontonagon County with over
1,300 square miles of forests, lakes, streams and
shoreline. This county has a distinguished history of
logging and mining, and is the site of the first telephone
system in Michigan. The oldest standing log home village in
the United States is located at Old Victoria, near the
village of Rockland. The North Country Trail bisects
Ontonagon County on its route to the Lewis & Clark Trail in
North Dakota. In this county of over 100 waterfalls, 150
inches of snowfall annually is an average.

Our
Michigan State Coordinator is
Jan Cortez. Should a county you're
interested in not be available for adoption right now, Jan
has a waiting list she can add your name to. Perhaps you might volunteer to assist the current coordinator.

do not live in Michigan and am unable to help you with local
research.
