MENZIES BURIAL RITES WERE HELD AT FAIRVIEW
Funeral services for Mrs. Daisy M. Menzies, 71 years old, well-known former Gaylord businesswoman, were conducted at Fairview cemetery by Elder Allen Schreur of the Latter Day Saints church, on May 18.
Services were at the Kribs Funeral Home in Corunna, where Mrs. Menzies died on May 15, early Thursday morning before shipping the body to Gaylord. Mrs. Menzies had been confined to her home since an automobile accident in September 1949. She suffered a heart attack more than a week previous to her death.
Born March 31, 1879 in Owosso, Mrs. Menzies, the former Daisy M. Willoughby attended Owosso high school. Ferris Institute at Big Rapids, and Michigan State Normal College at Ypsilanti.
Mrs. Menzies and her husband, the late Charles Menzies were married on July 1, 1903 and lived in Owosso and Corunna before moving to Gaylord in 1904. She returned to Corunna following his death in September 1929.
Active in Community
While in Gaylord, Mrs. Menzies conducted a hat shop for several years. She was a former member of the Gaylord school board. Mr. Menzies was well known having operated a livery stable for many years, with the late George A. Durfee. He served two years as Otsego County sheriff.
Mrs. Menzies, a past matron of Chrysanthemum chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Gaylord, was a school teacher at the Newburg school in Shiawassee township until her accident. A member of the Congregational church in Owosso, Mrs. Menzies was past president of the Shiawassee county Educational Association and a member of the Corunna Women's Club.
Surviving, besides two brothers-in-law, George and Arthur Menzies of Gaylord, is a daughter, Mrs. Lois Menzies Finerty of Pomona, Calif; a son, Carlton Menzies of Corunna; four grand-children, Darlene, Duane, Patricia dn Carolyn Finerty, and a brother Harry Willoughby of Grandville, Another son died in 1908.
