Early pioneers in Otsego county received homestead patents signed by
President Cleveland. These pioneers are listed below under the township they settled in.
Corwith Township was organized by a special act of the legislature in
1877, as was Hayes Township. The original townships in the county were
Elmira, Otsego Lake, Charlton and Livingston.C. F. Frencl .was the first
supervisor, Thomas C. Woodin the first treasurer, W. B. Gillette the
first clerk.
