You Can Help
If you are interested in transcribing
the graves in one or more of the cemeteries, I suggest you investigate
the USGenWeb Tombstone Transcription Project. They have some excellent instructions
on the best way to accomplish an accurate transcription, which also
includes information on submitting your transcription to the USGenWeb
Project Archives (of course, I'd love to post your transcript here as
well!). Keep in mind that many cemeteries are private property; be sure to
get permission from the property owner, and be gentle, especially with
non-marble gravestones.
And Your Help is Appreciated
It would be
wonderful to have updates on
the condition of the cemeteries. With nice weather and a few free hours it can be a real enjoyable venture to
take a picnic lunch and go
"cemetery crawling." Your help in keeping the cemetery information
accurate is welcome. When field-verifying a cemetery, please include as
much of the following information as possible:
-
directions
to the cemetery and/or landmarks to find it
-
the
condition of the cemetery
-
whether
there are any recent burials
-
who
is responsible for the cemetery (city, village, township, church,
historical society, etc.) and their address and telephone number, if
possible
-
the
general time frame of the earliest burials (i.e., 1840s, 1855,
etc.)
-
the
month and year of your visit
-
photographs of
the cemetery entrance and tombstones would be greatly appreciated.

excellent source of information, but like all information, verify it for
yourself. This site includes links to maps locating cemeteries (and
other features) in the USA, in the regions they are found, and by latitude and
longitude. Click on the cemetery name, then click on "Show Feature Location
using maps produced from the U.S. Census Bureau's Tiger Map Server."
