Pioneer Woman of County Dies at Residence Here

Mrs. Emma Duncan Cole, 85, a resident of St. Clair county 56 years, died Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles T. Babcock, 825 Eighth street, after a long illness.

Mrs. Cole was born in Niagara county, N. Y. , Aug. 5, 1843.  She was married to Isaac P. Cole Oct. 10, 1871.

Mr. and Mrs. Cole spent the first five years of their married life on their farm in Burtchville township, the site of which is now occupied by Lake Huron camp of the Woman's Benefit association.

In 1876 they moved to their farm four miles northwest of Lakeport where they resided until Mr. Cole died in 1894.  Mrs. Cole continued to live on the farm until she moved to Port Huron in 1905.

She is survived by two sons, Lester D. Cole, Burtchville township, and Leon P. Cole, Appleton, Wis., one daughter, Mrs. Babcock, at whose house she died; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. She had been a member of First Methodist Episcopal church here 20 years.

Funeral services will be held from the Babcock home, 825 Eighth street, Thursday at 2 p. m. Burial will take place at Lakeport.  Rev. Russell H. Brady and Rev. P. H. Murdick will officiate.
