JOYCE, Mrs. Jesse Gilbert

Mrs. Jesse Gilbert Joyce, 64, prominent worker in church, fraternal and veteran organizations, died unexpectedly of heart disease Monday night in her home, 1611 Tenth Street.  Mrs. Joyce was born in Memphis, Nov 4, 1873.  

She was past president of Orilla S. Farr tent, No. 18, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War and an active member of Gospel Tabernacle 31 years and for many years was the church organist.  She was also a member of Eupathy lodge, No. 242, Royal Neighbors of America.  She lived here 39 years.

She was the daughter of the late Charles and Matilda Pierce Gilbert, pioneer Memphis residents, and is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Roy Harris, and two sons, Helmer and R. Neil Joyce, all of Port Huron.  Two brothers, Bert Gilbert, Flint, and Helmer Gilbert, Fowlerville; two sisters, Mrs. H.J. Curtis, Oskosh, Neb. and Mrs. S.B. Robb, Leonard, MI, and seven grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the family residence, 1611 Tenth Street, and at 2 p.m. in Gospel Tabernacle, Rev. Alex Irwin, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.  The remains are in the family residence.
