"Marine Sailor Dies in Home"
Funeral Wednesday in Holy Cross for Stockwell, 81
Marine City, July 15--John Stockwell, 81, retired Great Lakes engineer, died Sunday afternoon in his home, 166 Belle River avenue, after a week's illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Cross Roman Catholic church. Rev. Fr. Dennis A. Hayes, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery.
He is survived by his widow, three sons, Daniel and Adam, both of Detroit, and John, Marine City; a niece, Mrs. Walter Sharrow, Algonac, and nephew, Joseph Stockwell, Marine City, and 18 grandchildren.
He was born in Cottrellville township and had lived in this vicinity all his life.
Mr. Stockwell retired from sailing 13 years ago. He was a member of Holy Cross church and the Holy Name society. He was the last of a family of eight children. A brother, Joseph Stockwell died Nov. 1, 1934.
