FUNERAL MONDAY FOR MRS. WITTLIFF

The Christian Mothers society of St. Joseph's Catholic church and the League of Catholic Women of Port Huron will meet at 4 p.m. today in the home of Mrs. John A. Barnet, 4000 Gratiot Avenue, to pay respects to Mrs. Catherine S. Wittliff, 78, who died Friday in St. Joseph's Retreat Hospital, Dearborn.

Mrs. Barnet is a daughter of Mrs. Wittliff. The remains are in the Barnet home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph's church. Rev. Stephen A. Wittliff, director of the Archdiocesan Apostolate of Detroit, brother-in-law of Mrs. Wittliff, will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

MRS. J. S. WITTLIFF, WIDOW OF FORMER POSTMASTER, DIES

Mrs. Catherine S. Wittliff, 78, a lifelong resident of Port Huron, died Friday in St. Joseph's Retreat Hospital, Dearborn, after a long illness.

She was born in Port Huron Jan. 15, 1871. She was the widow of John S. Wittliff who died Jan. 30, 1934. She was a member of St. Joseph's church, League of Catholic Women and the Christian Mothers Society of St. Joseph's church.

A lifelong resident of Port Huron, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Elizabeth Schwickert. Her husband was Postmaster here from 1913 to 1922.

Mrs. Wittliff is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John A. Barnet and Mrs. Thomas J. McGregor, both of Port Huron and Mrs. V.A. O'Malley of Muskegon, Mich.; three sons, Frank J., Edmund J. and John S. Wittliff all of Port Huron; three brothers, Edward Schwickert of Detroit, William Schwickert of Columbus, Mich., and Albert Schwickert of Port Huron; and her stepmother Mrs. Anna Schwickert of Port Huron, as well as 19 grandchildren.

The remains are in the home of her daughter, Mrs. John A. Barnet, 4400 Gratiot Avenue. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's church, Rev. Stephen A. Wittliff, Director of the Archdiocesan Apostolate of Detroit, brother-in-law of Mrs. Wittliff, officiating.

Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Catherine Wittliff was my paternal grandmother's mother.
