The Breedsville
Flood
September 17, 2008
On September 17, 2008 after
several inches of rain the birm at the Breedsville Dam gave way,
flooding the park and street. The dam was built before 1850 along
with the earthen birm which held back the water in the millpond.
This was used for many years as a source of power for the Mill and
Tannery. After electric power came into the area, the water power
was not used anymore, the mill was taken down and the millpond was only
a source of beauty for the area.
