GERYLD SMITH Shingobee Township Gerald Smith was born in Birmingham, England on April 10, 1869. He came to America in 1892, first living in Minneapolis with his sister Muriel and her husband Thom Wiggins. In 1901, he took the train north, and was forced to stop in Cyphers because of a blizzard. He was offered a job in the blacksmith shop and remained there for 10 years. In the summer he was a fishing guide on area lakes. He never married and retired to a small house in Walker MN in 1939 and died of a heart attack on June 12, 1940.
