This issue of GGS E-News contains:

  • New E-communications
  • GGS 2007 Calendar

  • Q & A about E-communications

New E-communications
As a Germanic Genealogy Society member, you can now receive GGS news and information by e-mail.  The GGS Board will issue two kinds of e-communications.

  • GGS E-Connect is your new quarterly newsletter.  It will contain details on upcoming GGS programs and meetings, calendars, news from the GGS Board, GGS library updates, and more.  Its subject line will always begin with "GGS E-Connect."  It replaces the printed GGS Connect, which had been mailed to GGS members.
  • GGS E-News will bring you brief meeting reminders and timely announcements.  It will be sent as needed between issues of E-Connect.  Its subject line will always begin with "GGS E-News." For more information about these e-communications, see "Q & A about E-communications" at the end of this message.

President's Message
I look forward to an exciting year with GGS.  As always, we will enjoy four issues of our excellent journal and four informative meetings.  New features will be added to our website.  And I hope you enjoy our new e-communications.

If you're wondering how you can contribute your time and talent to GGS, I have three ideas for you:

  • Send your suggestions for meetings or projects to ggsconnect@yahoo.com.
  • Attend our meetings and invite your friends to come with you.  Everyone is welcome.
  • Volunteer to help with a GGS meeting or project.  Read upcoming issues of the new GGS-E-Connect to learn how.

Best regards,
Kent Cutkomp

Q & A about E-communications
Why are we switching to e-mail for our communications?

  • More timely delivery of news and information
  • Reduced cost to GGS resulting in better use of our resources
  • Environmentally friendly

What about GGS members who do not have email?

Members for whom we have no e-mail addresses will receive all the necessary information about GGS and its meetings by U.S. mail.  These mailings will be printed copies of GGS E-Connect.  However, they will not receive GGS E-News.  Therefore, we encourage all members who have e-mail to provide GGS with their updated e-mail addresses.

What about the GGS Journal?  Will it arrive as e-mail?

No.  The Germanic Genealogy Journal will continue to arrive in your postal mailbox each quarter.

Will news about GGS continue to be posted on the GGS website?

Yes.  Our website is another excellent source of up-to-date news.  It is at http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnggs/GGS.html.

Can non-members receive these e-communications?

Yes.  Non-members who want news about our meetings and programs may subscribe to GGS E-Connect and GGS E-News by sending an e-mail message to ggsconnect@yahoo.com with "New e-mail address" in the subject line.  However, GGS will not send either of these communications to non-members via U.S. mail.

Should I forward this message to others?

We encourage you to share GGS meeting news with other researchers.  However, the formatting of this message may be lost if it is forwarded to others. Perhaps a better alternative is to refer your friends to the GGS website at http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnggs/GGS.html, where they will find information about the organization and its meetings.

What if my email address changes?

Send an e-mail to ggsconnect@yahoo.com with "New e-mail address" in the subject line.  Be sure to state your name and your new e-mail address.

Can I unsubscribe from these e-communications?

Yes.  If you don't want to receive GGS E-Connect and GGS E-News, send an e-mail to ggsconnect@yahoo.com with "unsubscribe" in the subject line.  State your name in the body of the message.  GGS members who unsubscribe will then receive printed copies of GGS E-Connect via U.S. mail.

Can I make suggestions and comments about the e-communications?

We welcome your suggestions and comments.  Send an e-mail to ggsconnect@yahoo.com with "comment" in the subject line.
