Die Ahnenstammkartei des Deutschen Volkes:
An Introduction and Register

by Thomas K. Edlund

The Deutsche Zentralstelle für Genealogie in Leipzig has collected family histories of Germanic and Central European people since 1922. Their primary collection consists of "Ahnentafeln" or pedigree charts, family group sheets and family history manuscripts. The collection also contains a card index of 2.7 million names.

These records have been microfilmed by the Family History Library. The collection is organized phonetically. This makes the collection of 1,200 rolls difficult to use without a register. Mr. Edlund has compiled a register for the films which lists the grouping by surname, including spelling variations.

The 140 page "Register" is a detailed directory of the microfilms, but is NOT an every name index (which would take thousands of pages). It contains an introduction to and explanation of the Ahnenstammkartei and an index to the microfilms. This register will ensure that you order the correct microfilm for each surname you are researching.

A valuable finding aid for all German research facilities. Paper-bound, 140 pages, perfect binding, 1995.
