| HARDSHIPS
OF PIONEERS Pioneers felled the trees and plowed the virgin soil of Independence. They built homes in a wilderness and walked miles for food and supplies. They cut their grain with cradles and survived the grasshopper plague. They knew cold and hunger. Still they stayed on, formed their own government, built their own schools and churches. They lived, loved, suffered and died here, the first people of Independence. Below is a partial record of the causes of their death, printed and spelled as in a listing on record in the West Hennepin County Pioneer Museum in Long Lake. |
