JOHNSON / JOHANNESSEN...Due
to a search at Ancestry.com about Minnesota Territorial and
State Census 1849-1905,
I find
listed Niels E JOHNSON born 1848 as a match, he seems to have
been living in Kandiyohi. Unfortunately, the open search
at Ancestry does not specify the year of the Census without full
access to their databases.
I need to know if this might be the 1875 Census, or even better if anyone might have any information on this person. If this is in the 1875 Census this might be my GGF, born 1848, and emigrated about 1871/72 from Balsfjord, Troms, Norway. His full (Norwegian) name was originally Nils Edvard Johannessen which might as well been translated to Niels E Johnson while in the US. Words is that when he left Norway he went to visit his uncle (Hans Henrich Hansson in MEEKER county), and that he possibly from there have been attracted to the Balsfjord area in and round Lake Lillian. I am Norwegian, (Birthplace Balsfjord!), and unfortunately without full access to the databases at ancestry.com or the possibility to lookup microfilms in Kandiyohi. So please, if anybody has information on this person, I would be greatful to know. |

| TINGLOF / TINGLUF / TINGLOFF, HANSEN / HANSON, GAARD - 1865-1880......I am attempting to find out more about Annie Elizabeth Tingluf / Tingloff. She was born in 1857 in Oquawka, Henderson County, Illinois. I believe her father was Lars Tingluf / Tingloff. Her mother’s name is unknown. I have recently found a Swen E. Tingloff, born ca 1865, listed in the 1880 Census of Kandiyohi County, with his birthplace also listed as Illinois. He was listed under the household of JAJ Bomsta as a farm worker. I believe him to be a brother to Annie Elizabeth Tingloff. In approximately 1875, Annie Elizabeth Tingloff married Morten Hanson in Kandiyohi County, probably in the Lake Elizabeth Norwegian Baptist Church. I would like verification of the marriage date of these two if possible. Family oral tradition indicates Morten first met Annie when he and his step-father, Hans Hansen Gaard, were visiting an orphanage. Where this orphanage was located is unknown to me. This may be a good story, but it has a ring of truth. Support for this oral tradition might be found in the premise that if indeed Swen E. Tingloff is a brother of Annie’s, it would confirm their parents were no longer alive, as Swen was only fifteen at the time (1880). The Hanson/Gaard family lived near Lake Elizabeth for approximately ten years before moving to Artichoke Lake in Big Stone County. I’d appreciate greatly any additional information on any of these persons, but particularly information about Annie and Swen Tingloff and their parents. Morten and Annie Hanson were my great-grandparents. | Jerry Hanson |

WEIDNER........My
great-grandparents, George WEIDNER and Eva Nickol Weidner moved to
Kandiyohi County in 1887 from Illinois. They farmed until 1898
when they moved to Lintonville to operate a general store. In the
following years they also opened a lumber yard, coal sheds, implement
shop, and cream station. Their sons, including my grandfather
Robert Weidner, took over the operation of the businesses.
According to what I know, the place was called Linton in 1886.
Later, they changed to Lintonville. Then my great-grandfather
George Weidner suggested the name "Regal." The ancestors are Pancratz-Georg Bonagratius WEIDNER (b. 07 Apr 1825 in Schederndorf (Stadelhofen) Bavaria, Germany and died 11 Oct 1893 in Lake Henry, MN. His wife as Ursula HENNEMANN who was born 24 Oct 1826 in Bavaria, Germany and died 23 Apr 1892 in Lake Henry, MN. Bonagratius and his family moved to Lake Henry in 1885 (including George A. Weidner, John Simon Weidner, Jocab Weidner, Michael Weidner, Andrew Weidner, Barbara Weidner, and Mary K. Weidner. The son, George A. Weidner and wife Eva Nickol lived in Lintonville (Regal), MN. They lived there until they died, and their son Robert (my grandfather) and his wife Margaret Peters Weidner also lived in Regal until they died. One of their sons, Thomas Weidner is still living in Regal, MN. I have more information is needed. |

| WHITCOMB, Frederick A. - 1867-1930s?........Frederick Whitcomb and his wife, Hannah, are listed as living in Burbank Township during the 1930 census. Hannah passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Martin Knoll, near Lake Lillian on December 14, 1943. The funeral was held at the Bird Island Methodist Church. I am trying to locate their grave site and the date of death for Frederick. | |
| SWANSON, Carl J. Albin........My great-grandfather and his wife Hilda moved from Knox County, IL to Kandiyohi County after 1904. I would like to know why, and where they lived. I was told he died up there in 1916, but have not verified it. They all moved back to Illinois, burying him in Illinois. Any information would be helpful. | |
| ASPLUND, JONSON........1880'S | |
| GUSTAFSSON.........I am looking for information on Nils Gustafsson who was born November 1847 (?) in Sweden. According to the 1880, 1885m 1895 and the 1900 census records taken in Dovre Township, Kandiyohi County, Nils emigrated from Sweden to Minnesota in 1870, married and had about 12 children. He died in Kandiyohi County in 1903. I would like to find a clue as to where in Sweden he was born/lived and what cemetery he might be buried at in Minnesota. A special thank you for your help and time in answering me. | |
| MONSON.........I am searching for any information about the MONSON families who lived near Spicer or near Wilmar or near Green Lake. They were still living there between 1905-1912. They all migrated to Shelby County, Iowa. Heads of the MONSON families were: Ephriam and Sanford and Martin. Any assistance or information will be appreciated. Thanks. | |

| JONES, WHEELER, TAIT......1850 to 1870. I am still keen to communicate with anyone who has any information on my great grandparents. Samuel Foulkes JONES and Matilda JONES (originally THOMAS). Both were settlers who fled Diamond Lake during the 1862 uprising, along with the FOOTs, the WHEELERs, and the TAITs. I think a number of the families stayed in Forest City (Meeker County) till about 1865, but returned to Diamond Lake. Samuel and Matilda were married in 1870, and settled on Vermillion, South Dakota. I have correspondence from Samuel and his brother William to the rest of the family living in Wales, describing part of the uprising. | |

In fact, I am probably related to many of the early Swedish settlers who came from Jarvso and would be very interested in knowing how their lives unfolded. | |

He was one of the white settlers killed by the Sioux Indians on August 21, 1862 near Crook Lake. If you are interested in a little biography of the family, please let me know, and I will be happy to contribute Johannes' story and family information. |

| CAIN, William Leo and Cecil, late 1940s to 1976. These ancestors were my grandfather and grandmother. | OLIN, Minnie & Ericka - Minnie lived in Willmar 1910 to sometime after 1930. I don't know if she ever married, but sometime after 1914 her mother Ericka Olin came to live with her until her death. I know Ericka is buried in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. I would like to know if they appear in any census from 1910 to 1930. In 1914 Minnie's nieces, Clara and Edith, came to live with her. If there is a 1915 census for the county, they may appear on that. Thank you for any help you may give me. We will be coming to Willmar for the day on August 26th or 27th, 2003. Is there a place where I could get more info? | |

| MICKELSON - Amanda MICKELSON died April 1940 at her son's home, Hjalmar HOAGLUND, at 324 N. 7th St., Willmar. I believe her father Erick Berglund died there also around 1878; someone said he drowned in a lake there. She had a brother, Charles O. WILDES, who was living in Willow River at the time of her death and he was born around 1868. I am searching for him, an obituary, a death date, anything but so far no luck. Amanda's first husband was Peter HOAGLUND, died there in 1896. Her second husband Mr. MICKELSON died there in 1923. Her other children were Albert HOAGLUND, Julius and Carl. Any info you could give me would be very much appreciated in my endeavor to find my ancestors. | |

| PERKINS -
My Grandfather's name was George Henry PERKINS. He was born in
Morrisville, Vermont in 1851. I have pretty well traced his family
history back to 1596 so that part is OK (I think). I located him
in the 1880 United States Census living with Hiram R. GALE (who married
George's sister) and his family in Willmar, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota
- George was listed as widowed. Family History Library Film
1254624, NA Film Number T9-0624, Page Number 86B. He was a real
estate dealer. He married Hattie SPICER (possibly changed from
SPEISER). Her father was supposedly Swiss and mother Irish.
They had five girls, I believe, in Willmar, Minnesota: Hazel,
Dorothy, Lulu, Lutine, Georgia (my mother), a boy named George, and May,
a daughter by George's first marriage. I knew the family gad moved
to Canada and I located them on the 1906 Canada Census living in
Winnipeg, Manitoba - District #10, Subdistrict 03+G (Ward three) page
34. They moved back to the States to Long Beach, Calif. but I
don't know when. I have no information on them during the years
between the 1880 U.S. Census and the 1906 Canadian Census.
I still need to find the following: There's probably all sorts of other things I need to know too but that's all I can think of right now. If you can't help me with this hopefully you can direct me to someone who can. Many thanks. |

| (WHITEFIELD) I am a descendant of Edwin WHITEFIELD (PENNIE), the first settler in Kandiyohi County and a famous artist according to Alan Pennie. Edwin was born in East Lulworth Dorset England (1816-1892). He had a wife and son in the UK before leaving for the US in about 1837. The history from then on of him and his family are well documented. He dropped Pennie on arrival in US and used his mother's name of Whitefield, although the middle "E" is missing this side of the Atlantic. If anyone is interested in his earlier life, parents, etc., I would happily pass on what information I have, also his descendants from his English family. I would very much like to contact any American descendants still living. | |

am interested in any information about them, Ole's store, schooling,
church, etc. His daughter Regina taught school at St John's and Lake
Andrew townships form 1905 - 1909. Also during the time he was there
he had acted as a marshal for the local celebration days, was one of
the people that helped with the new bank in the area in that same
time frame. I would appreciate any information as I can get to help
in my writing's of a book about his family.
