The
County Seat of Lake County is Two Harbors.
Lake County
was first created in 1855. It first was named Superior, then it
was named St. Louis, then renamed last but not least Lake County
in 1856.
Lake County
is located in northeastern Minnesota, with Lake Superior as its southern
border. Neighboring Minnesota counties include: Cook county to the
east, and St. Louis county to the west. The Canadian Province of
Ontario is its northern neighbor. Most of Lake County is
surrounded by the Superior National Forest, and the Boundary Waters
Canoe Area.
Lake County covers 2,099
square miles and the cities and towns, and communities include:
Alger, Avoy, Baptism Crossing, Beaver Bay, Beaver Crossing, Bell Harbor,
Castle Danger, Cramer, Darby Junction, East Beaver Bay, Finland, Forest
Center, Greenwood Junction, Happy Wanderer, Highland, Illgen City,
Isabella, Jay See Landing, Jordan, Kelly Landing, Kennedy Landing,
Larsmont, Lauren, Lax Lake, Little Marais, London, Manitou Junction,
Maple, Marcy, Martin Landing, McDougal Lake, McNair, Murphy City, Nine
Mile Lake, Norshor Junction, Prairie Portage, Sawbill Landing, Scott
Junction, Section Thirty, Silver Bay, Silver Creek, Silver Rapids,
Stewart, Toimi, Two Harbors, Waldo, Wales, Wheeler Landing, White Iron,
Whyte and Winter.
