HANSON, HEGGSET, TEIGLAND posted by Amanda Kimmet on Saturday, May 17, 2003

Hi. I'm Amanda Kimmet, a freshman at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. For the past few years I've been researching my entire family history, making stops here and there to gather information from primary sources so I could compose it all together in a family history book that I'll be presenting at the family reunion this summer. My great-great grandparents emigrated from Hallingdal Norway and settled in Nordland Twp. to be near Anna TEIGLAND, a relative. Tolleiv Eirikson HEGGSET and his wife Helga Aasmundson Soldahl HANSON settled there in 1881 and homesteaded. They raised eight children there, their son Adolph Heggeseth and his descendants own a farm in Minneota still near Hemnes Lutheran Church, while their daughter Hilda Marie Nelson and her husband owned the original homestead. Hilda and her husband lost the farm due to bankruptcy and moved to Hendricks, MN with their son Elmer A. Nelson and youngest daughter Dorothe Nelson. If you or anyone would like family records, marriage licenses, descendants, ancestors, sale transactions, I have it all. Plus if you're interested I have pictures of my ancestors tombstones in the Hemnes Cemetary and of them. Amanda Kimmet

FOLSOM posted by Dale Hardin on Tuesday, June 10, 2003

I am looking for information on a Sadie FOLSOM. She was a School teacher in Taylors Falls sometime in the 1910's to the 1920's. She taught Elementary School, and was my mothers 3rd grade teacher . My mother was born in Taylors Falls in 1919. Mother's family lived in a house two houses or so down from the Folsom home, and Sadie was a friend of the family. Sadie gave the family a gift that she had made herself and my mother has just recently given it to me, and I am trying to document the provenance for family posterity. I was hoping to find out if and how Sadie FOLSOM might be related to William Henry Carman Folsom. I have read quite a bit on the Web about William, but cannot seem to find much on his family. Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Dale Hardin p.s. While my mother can't remember how Sadie might have been related to the Folsom's, she does remember her as being a wonderful teacher.

NORWOOD posted by Jane Grimstad on Sunday, December 28, 2003

I am looking for information as well as descendants of : Ole NORWOOD (O. F. Norwood, b. 1853) who ran for state office around 1897. According to the History of Lyon County (Minnesota) published in 1912 by Arthur P. Rose, in 1897 O. F. Norwood was a candidate for Auditor and a candidate again for the same office in 1898. He was also a member of the village of Tracy government serving as recorder in 1892 and a trustee in 1893. In 1895 he was an alderman of the city of Tracy, MN. Karen Augusta Norwood (b. 1855) Charles Norwood (b. 1857, d. 1928 in Skandia) Morse Norwood (b. 1861, d. 1948 in or near Washington DC) Fredrik Norwood (b. 1864, d. 1939 in Skandia) According to the History of Lyon County (Minnesota) published in 1912 by Arthur P. Rose F. F. Norwood is mentioned as a president of the Lyon County Coop. Fred Norwood was a "law maker in the lower house" from Skandia in 1917. (From A History of Western Murray County from 1688 to December 1946 and of Leeds Townships by Robt. B. Forrest, 1947) All of the above emigrated in 1869 from ěstre Toten, Oppland, Norway with their parents Fredrik Olsen (b. 1819) and Karine Pedersdatter (b. 1832, d. 1915 in Skandia). There was another son who emigrated with them, Olaf (b. 1868), but there is no record of him in the 1870 census or after. I'm assuming he either died at sea or shortly after the family arrived in the US. Fredrik and Karine had 3 additional children in the US and named the first son born in the US "Olaf" presumably after the Olaf from Norway who died. The three children born in Minnesota to Fredrik and Karine Norwood are: Milla Otilda Norwood (b. abt. 1870) Olaf Norwood (b. about 1873) William Norwood (b. 1878, d. 1920 in Skandia) According to the History of Lyon County (Minnesota) published in 1912 by Arthur P. Rose, William Norwood was a 1897 graduate of Tracy high school. I have some information from census records on the family--some of the children of the above, etc. but it is far from complete.
