HELFERS/KRUMWIEDE: In the cemetery of St. John's Lutheran Church, Buckley, Iroquois County, Illinois, is a tombstone containing the following: F D Heinrich Helfers, 4 May 1833-17 Nov 1885 aged 52-6-13, Father; Dorothea Maria Helfers 31 Mar 1841-21 Sept 1884, aged 43-5-21 wife of FDH Helfers, born Krumwiede, Mother. According to the Death Records at the church, Dorothea Krumwiede Helfers was born in Germany. This places her outside the known family structure of Krumwiede families in Iroquois County. Frances P. CLARK married Samuel BACON and they lived in Nashville Twp. Martin Co and Winnebago, Faribault Co area for many years-1860-1910. Samuel BACON died before the 1910 Census, France P. BACON was age 71 living in Winnebago. She was still alive in 1914, from a letter she wrote at that time. I don't know when she died or where she was buried. I've had Faribault County look for her in their cemetery records, but they don't have a Samuel or Frances P. BACON. Since other family were back in Nashville Twp. Martin Co., I'm wondering if they are buried there. Her adopted son was Orrin W. BACON, and her adopted daughter married Charlie HOWE. Orrin BACON was last found in 1910 in Westford Twp, Martin County. Perhaps she is buried there. Anyone out there doing research on BACON/CLARK/HOWE?

Can you verify that John BATDORF died in Fairmont (Lake Fremont twnshp?) on 8 Apr 1876? He is buried in the Savidge Lake Cemetery in Le Sueur Co (near Cleveland). His son died there (Fairmont or Lake Fremont twnshp?) 27 Sept 1876 or 1 Oct. 1876. Son's name was Jacob Frank. I cannot get verification of this either. John was married to Margaret RHOADES, who still has people in the area. I have been in contact with them. Would sons Samuel b. 28 Mar 1873/74 and George E.G. b. 14 June 1870 be born there? Will share Batdorf information. Thank you, Mary Jo Fritz.

I am researchng the name Dunell/Dunnell and am intrigued how the City of Dunnell got its name.
Thanks, Paul Dunell
Australia

(Here is the reply from one of our Lookup volunteers, Maureen Reed:
'The Martin County, MN History book says "Dunnell was organized in 1899. Hans Pedersen, Sr., John Ostergren, John Nelson, and Ole Olson donated twenty acres on which the village was located. Dunnell was named after Mark Dunnell, an Owatonna statesman." It goes on to tell about it's business & school development. There are no DUNNELL or variation in the surname index.'
Thanks, Maureen!)
