Bernice Babcock, 91, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home.

She was born July 4, 1909 in LaCrescent to Edward and Bertha (Smith) Post. She moved to Austin as a young girl. Bernice was married to Robert O. Babcock on Aug. 6, 1938 and lived in Austin until her death.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Gary and Connie Babcock, Mission Viejo, Calif.; two grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Florence Post, Bloomington; sister-in-law, Hazel Post, Austin; brother-in-law Elmer Reitzel, Downey, Calif.; five nieces and fouir nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 20, 1989 and two brothers, Edward and Clarence Post.

Service: A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. bearers are Robert Post, Roger Post, Maynard Wolfe, Ron Lueders and Burt Towne.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation: There will be a 4 p.m. CCW rosary and a 6:30 p.m. wake service today at Mayer Funeral Home with a visitation from 4-7 p.m. and 9-10 a.m. Monday.

Joe Matt officiating. Interment will be in the Bohemian National cemetery, Myrtle. Mr. Prantner was born July 06, 1918 at Geraldine. Mont, to Frank and Rose (Flufek) Prantner. He farmed for many years in the Myrtle area.

Survivors include his wife, Ella, Austin; two sons and daughters-in-laws, Gerald and Nancy Prantner, Glenville and Larry and Vickey Prantner, Albert Lea; four grandchildren, Gary, Tammy, Joshua and Angela Prantner; one great grand daughter , Brittany Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his parents a granddaughter, Amy Prantner, and one step- daughter-in-law.

AUSTIN, MINNESOTA -- The funeral for Edna Pearl Brandt will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Austin, with the Rev. William Natzke officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin.

Mrs. Brandt, 97, of Austin, a homemaker, died Tuesday (May 8, 2001) at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center in Austin.

Edna Pearl Priem was born Sept. 12, 1903, in Mitchell County, Iowa. She married Michael Brandt in February 1921 in St. Ansgar, Iowa, and they made their home in Austin.

Survivors include a son, Glenn (Loriene) of Austin; a daughter, Virginia (Robert) Myhre of Austin; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her twin sister, Esther Rosenberg of St. Ansgar. She was preceded in death by her husband, four sisters, five brothers and a grandson.

Rites Held Monday in Sergeant, Minn, for Mrs. Emory Pries

Funeral services were held in Sergeant Minnesota, for the former Peotone resident, Mrs. Eleanor Pries. Mrs. Pries, 44, died suddenly about 4:20 am Saturday as a result of childbirth in St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Rev. J. H. Klausmerier officiated at the services at 2 p.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church. Mrs. Pries and her infant daughter were buried in Sergeant.

Born January 6, 1913 in Crete, the daughter of William and Martha Kannberg. Mrs. Pries was married in Peotone March 24, 1940 to Emory Pries, who survives. The couple farmed east of town until they moved to Minnesota several years ago to make their home.

Survivors beside her husband include two sons Darell and David, and a daughter Carol, all at home; her mother Mrs. Martha Kannberg of Lansing, Minn., and a brother Raymond Kannberg of Peotone.

She was preceded in death by her father and a brother Roy.

Adam Puff, who has been ailing with heart disease and dropsy for several years, finally breathed his last on Monday of last week. Mr. Puff came here from Racine County, Wisc., about five years ago and settled on the Felch farm.

By the death of Mr. Puff this community loses one of their best citizens. He was 54 years old at the time of his death. He was buried in the Lutheran Trinity cemetery last Wednesday. His funeral was well attended."

An Aged Couple Burned to Death last Sunday Morning.

Mr. and Mrs. William Purdy last Saturday night retired in usual health with an apparently fair prospect of months and perhaps years being yet added to their allotted time, though they were both past the "three score years and ten." How little this aged couple realized last Saturday evening, as they sat smoking their pipes and pleasantly chatting with a neighbor, about half past eight, that this was their last night on earth! That when the morning light should welcome in the near Sabbath, that they would both be done with all life's wearying cares and trials, and they entered into the new life,---and now the end had come. Fifty seven years they had borne life's burdens together, and now they were together to lay them down, and, leaning upon each other, hand in hand as it were, walk out into the great mystery.

Sunday morning, about four o'clock, the little house near the south bridge in this city, where this couple lived alone, was discovered in flames. Those first reaching the house burst in the door, but too late---as the whole inside of the dwelling was a mass of flame, and in a moment the floors and roof had fallen into the cellar. At first no one seemed to think but that the old people were safely outside. But it was not long before the dreadful truth that they were buried in the burning ruins, settled upon all, and the firemen took immediate action to recover the bodies. They were found side by side in the exact locality of their bed, so the conclusion was soon reached that they were suffocated, and had made no effort to escape. The bodies were drawn from the ruins, a disfigured and sickening sight.

Coroner Hollister was immediately notified, a jury subpoenaed, and a verdict rendered at 2 o'clock Sunday that the death of the aged people was caused by suffocation.

Mr. and Mrs. Purdy were born in Canada, were aged seventy-eight and seventy-nine years, the wife being one year the younger. They had ten children, three living in Minnesota---two daughters, Mrs. John Eddy and Mrs. Lafayette Pierce, living about three miles this side of Lyle, and a daughter residing in Austin, Mrs. Alfred Church. Mrs. Thomas Varco, of the Varco station, was a sister of Mrs. Purdy. The remains were taken to Varco and buried last Sunday afternoon, where a brother of Mrs. Purdy is also buried. The funeral services will take place at Enterprise school house, next Sunday at 2 o'clock PM, Rev. J.W. Eldridge, of this city, officiating.

Frederick J. Pusch, 83, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away at his home on Sunday, May 20, 2007.

Fred was born July 19, 1923 in Fairfax, Minnesota, to Joseph and Emilie (Effenberger) Pusch, who had emmigrated from Austria after World War I. Fred served in the United States Air Force during World Waw II, in the Pacific Theater. After graduating from St. John's University in 1948 he went on to receive his master's degree in chemistry from the University of Minnesota. He was a chemist for many years at the Hormel Institute in Austin.

In August 1953 Fred married Kathleen Wold in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. In the 1950s, he played in the Austin Drum and Bugle Corp. Fred was a charter member of St. Edward's Catholic Church and served many years on the Parish Council and the school board of Pacelli High School. He began singing in the Adult Choir at St. Edward's when it was first organized until 2004 and he also served as a lector. Fred was a great Pacelli booster and also a booster of his alma mater, St. John's University.

Fred was a gentle and good man who loved God, his family, his country, and enjoyed opera and classical music.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Pusch, Austin; five children: Fred D. (Nancy) Pusch, Montgomery, Minnesota; Mary Louise (Jim) Foster, Yankton, South Dakota; Jeanne (Bruce) Anderson, Burnsville, Minnesota; JoAnn (Paul) Ferber, Eagan, Minnesota; Donald M. (Laura) Pusch, Tucson, Arizona; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Donald (Joyce) Pusch, St. Paul, Minnesota; and a brother-in-law, Donald (Rosemary) Wold, Starkweather, North Dakota.

A funeral mass was celebrated on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at St. Edward's Catholic Church, with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There was a Wake Service on Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post #91.

Robert T. Quackenbush, age 80, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, May 4, 2007 at his home.

Robert was born in Spring Valley, Minnesota, on May 22, 1926. During his high school years he was class president. He enlisted in the Navy the day after his high school graduation and served as a gunner on an Avenger Torpedo Bomber during World War II. Shortly after the war he played baseball for a semi-pro team and started his lifelong career in the insurance industry.

In 1949 he met and married Arlean Jean Henrikson in Valley City, North Dakota. They moved to Albert Lea in 1954 and purchased the Bergen Insurance Agency later to be named QBC Insurance and World Travel.

Robert served as President of the Minnesota Independent Insurance Association, First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea Country Club, and the Albert Lea Shriners and was active in the church choir. He also served as a city councilman for the City of Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Moving to Austin in 1988 he continued selling insurance for First National Bank and later for Sterling State Bank.

Survivors include his wife, Arlean Quackenbush; a daughter, Jana (Gene) Berghoff; a son: James (JoAnn) Quackenbush; his grandchildren: Michael, Elizabeth and husband Eric, Krista, Austin, and Sophia, Diane Holland, Ann Quackenbush; and a sister, Gloria (Larry) Strain.

He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Quackenbush, by his parents, Lambert and Amy Quackenbush, by sisters: Virginia, Dorothy, and Constance, and by his brothers, Lyman and Larry.

A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Austin, with the Rev. Kristi Koppel officiating.

Interment was in Frankford Cemetery in Spring Valley.

The Mayer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

AUSTIN, MINN. -- Stephen T. Quackenbush, 39, of Golden Valley, Minn., and formerly of the Austin area, died Thursday afternoon (April 2, 1992) of injuries suffered in a car accident near New Ulm.

Born July 18, 1952, in Windom, Minn., he was a graduate of the University of Minnesota and San Francisco State University. He was employed by Context Limited of Minneapolis. He married the former Diane Fahrman and they were later divorced.

Survivors include a son, Michael of Rochester; a daughter, Elizabeth of Rochester; his parents, Robert and Arlean Quackenbush of Austin; a sister, Jana (Mrs. Gene) Berghoff of Eden Prairie, Minn.; and a brother, James also of Eden Prairie; and his paternal grandmother, Amy Quackenbush of Cannon Falls.

There will be a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. James Mikkelson officiating. Burial will be in Frankford Cemetery in rural Mower County.

SPRING VALLEY, MINN. -- The funeral for Virginia E. Leutink will be 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Spring Valley with the Rev. Gordon Hanson officiating. Burial will be in Frankford Cemetery, Frankford Township, Mower County.

Mrs. Leutink, 83, of Spring Valley, a former cafe owner and farmer, died Monday (Sept. 6, 1999) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester where she had been a patient a short time.

Virginia E. Quackenbush was born Oct. 2, 1915, in Fillmore County. In 1936, she married Hugh Bailey and he died in 1940. She married Raymond Leutink Aug. 22, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1976. Mrs. Leutink owned a number of cafes in the Spring Valley-Ostrander area and also farmed near Ostrander. She was active in First Baptist Church in Spring Valley.

Survivors include two sons, David Bailey of Rochester and Richard Bailey of Cannon Falls; a daughter, Diana (Mrs. James) LeFavor of Prior Lake, Minn.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob Quackenbush of Austin; and two sisters, Connie Andre of Lincoln, Neb., and Gloria (Mrs. Larry) Strain of Cannon Falls. A sister and two brothers preceded her in death.

Friends may call an hour before the service Friday at the church.

Robert Marvin Qual, 78, of Austin, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Comforcare Nursing Home in Austin.

He was born in Wigdahl, Minn., on April 6, 1924 to Martin J. Qual and Clara Johanna Dahl.

He graduated from Grand Forks High School in Grand Forks, N.D., and Union Business College in Grand Forks.

During World War II, he served in the Navy in the South Pacific where he survived the sinking of two ships in the battle for the Philippines.

He received a Purple Heart and eight battle stars.

In 1950 he married Alice Redmon at Oak Park Lutheran Church in Clearbrook, Minn.

He managed creameries in Northern Minnesota and owned and operated Quality Pest Control and Quality Lawns in Austin.

After retiring he drove the van for St. Mark's Lutheran Home and worked at the YMCA.

He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, on th board of directors of Grandview Cemetery Association, an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and ARC Mower County.

He was an avid golfer and amateur artist.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; children Leslie (Maria) Qual, St. Augustine, Fla., Nancy Qual, Austin, Catherine (Gary) Stypula, Boulder, Colo., Shirley (Mark Bearss) Qual, Mahtomedi, Minn., Susan (Tim) Nixon, Hudson, Wisc.; 5 grandchildren; sister Virginia (Stuart) Austin, Pequot Lakes, Minn., sister-in-law Hazel Wyman, Barre, Mass., nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jim.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 25, 2002,at the funeral home and an hour before the service at the church.

Mrs. Quam, 90, of 200 First Ave. N.E., a homemaker, died Tuesday (July 1, 1997) at Austin Medical Center.

Clara A. Goehtz was born March 23, 1907, in Lansing and attended Hayward, Minn., schools. On Aug. 17, 1930, she married Oren Quam in Hayward. Mrs. Quam was a longtime member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and was money counter for many years. She enjoyed fishing in northern Minnesota, playing cards, knitting and making mittens for the Salvation Army, making afghans and was an avid baseball and basketball fan.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna (Mrs. David) Goslee of Hollywood, Fla.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marcella Thompson of Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and two brothers.

Mr. Quam, 66, of 1912 Third Ave. S.E., a retired Hormel Foods Corp. employee, died Saturday (Nov. 8, 1997) at his home.

He was born Sept. 2, 1931, in Austin and attended Austin schools. On Feb. 5, 1955, he married Delaine "Dee" Werth in Arvada, Colo. Mr. Quam was employed at Hormel for 35 years before his retirement. He had also worked in Alaska for three months, for Hydro-Ax for a year and and for the city of Austin Sewer Department for five years. An avid outdoorsman, he hunted, fished, trapped and canoed on the Cedar River and was a member of the American Trappers Association. He also enjoyed attending auctions and buying and selling furniture.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Debra (Mrs. William) Vietor of Austin; two sons, Dennis of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Doug of Mankato, Minn.; eight grandchildren; a sister, Maxine (Mrs. Harold) Jacobson of Austin; and two brothers, Lester Jr. and Richard, both of Austin.

Pauline Y. Queensland, age 59, of rural Adams, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester.

She was born Oct. 18, 1941, in Spring Valley to Albert and V. Vivian (Hegg) Ruud. Pauline graduated in the class of 1959 from Spring Valley High School. After high school, she was employed by St. Mary's Hospital as a surgical recorder. On April 15, 1961, she married John Queensland at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spring Valley. They farmed and lived by Grand Meadow until 1968, when they moved to a farm near Adams. Pauline was a homemaker and took care of her children. She was very active at Marshall Lutheran Church where she was a member working with the ladies aide and as a Sunday school teacher. She was also actively involved in the community, helping others, including working at D.A.C. in Adams. Some of her hobbies included sewing and painting, doing yard work, gardening and taking care of the flowers at the CRCC golf club. Pauline also loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She had recently worked at the Farr Corp. in

LeRoy doing some marketing for the assisted living complex in LeRoy.

She is survived by her husband John Queensland, Adams; daughter and son-in-law, Susan (Steve) Speer, LeRoy; sons and daughter-in-law, Curtis Queensland, Rochester, David (Mali) Queensland, Byron; four grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Alleen (Richard) Watson, Preston, Romona (G. Roger) Gilbert, Spring Valley, Priscilla Munns, Canton, Cindy Johnson, Spring Valley; brother, Orville Ruud, Rochester; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Veronica Ruud.

Services: Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Marshall Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dick Kastner officiating.

Interment: Marshall Lutheran Cemetery in Marshall Township

Visitation: Adams Funeral Home Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and on Monday at Marshall Lutheran Church for one hour before the service.

 

Retired Sergeant First Class Susan Q. Johnson (nee Qvale), age 54, died on April 30, 2007 in her home in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

She was a graduate of Austin High School, and was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam and Gulf Wars. She was a medical laboratory specialist, a recruiter and above all, a leader of soldiers. Susan was a hard working supporter of her community.

Susan is survived by her husband, Steve Johnson; her mother, Margaret; her brothers, Jack and Robert; her sisters, Louise and Barbara; and by seven nephews and one niece.

She was preceded in death by her father, Sigvald C. Qvale.

Services and burial were held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Monday, May 7, 2007.

AUSTIN, MINN. -- The funeral for Leona Olive Cooklin of Austin, formerly of Elkton, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dexter United Methodist Church in Dexter with the Rev. Robert Gamble officiating. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery.

Mrs. Cooklin, 89, died Friday morning (Nov. 27, 1998) at Austin Medical Center.

Leona Olive Rabine was born Jan. 31, 1909, on a farm near Dexter. She married Iven DeSart in 1926 and he died Dec. 31, 1946. She married Walter T. Cooklin in 1949. After retirement from St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company, they retired to Mesa, Ariz., for 14 years. Mr. Cooklin died June 28, 1985. She had been an active member of the Mower County Senior Center and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was once state president of the auxiliary. She also was also active in church and loved to play cards and bingo, and fish.

Survivors include three daughters, Lois Deyo of Austin, Audrey (Mrs. Mitchell) Rieken of Oakdale and Donna (Mrs. Jim) Burdette of Great Falls, Mont.; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son and five brothers.

He was born Nov. 19, 1899, in Story County, Iowa. On Dec. 27, 1923, he married Esther Draeger in Rockford, Iowa. They farmed near Corning in Moscow Township, Freeborn County, for many years. He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan (Mrs. Pilo) Rios of Albuquerque, N.M.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Neva Smith of Loveland, Colo. Her husband, a daughter, a brother and a sister preceded her in death.

The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, with the Rev. Ron Jensen officiating. Burial will be in Red Oak Grove Cemetery.

Harry Franz Friedrich Rappe, 89 of Austin, died at Austin Medical Center Friday morning, July 26, 2002. He was born Feb. 17, 1913 to Phillip and Marie (Horstman) Rappe in Wykoff, Minnesota.

After attending Austin schools, Harry worked Hormel Foods. He married Loretta Naatz on April 21, 1934 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waltham.

A charter member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, some of his volunteer work included treasurer and serving on the church council. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and watching movies. After 42 years at Hormel, he retired in 1974 and moved to St. Marks Lutheran Home in January 2002.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta of Austin; daughter, Janet (James) Conner of Hutchinson; son, William (Alice) Rappe of Clear Lake, Iowa; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, sister, Mariel Faber of Austin and a niece.

Brothers, Harold and Irvin Rappe and sister, Gertrude Wyant, preceded him in death.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. July 29 at the funeral home and at the church Tuesday one hour before the service.

Service: 11 a.m., Tuesday July 30 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Stohlmann officiating.

Internment: Oakwood Cemetery

Loretta Esther Rappe, 93 of Austin, died Saturday evening, August 6, 2005, at St Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin.

She was born August 16, 1911, near Waltham, the daughter of Emil and Mathilda (Koehn) Naatz. She was baptized September 24, 1911 and confirmed May 24, 1924, at Trinity Lutheran Church near Waltham. She attended the Trinity Lutheran Church Day School. After completing her education, Loretta worked as a waitress at the Fox Hotel and later in the dietary department of Burr Oak Nursing Home.

On April 21, 1934, she was united in marriage to Harry Franz Friedrich Rappe at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waltham.

She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid, where she served as its first president.

She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and volunteering.

The couple entered St. Mark's Lutheran Home in January 2002 and Harry died July 26, 2002.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet (James) Connor of Hutchinson; a son, William (Alice) Rappe of Clear Lake, Iowa;three grandchildren, Kandi Rappe, Heather Camacho and Kris Given; a step grandson, Kent Hanson; three great-grandchildren, Mark Given, Morgan Mulford and Samantha Camacho; two step great-grandchildren, Casey Hanson and Shelby Hanson; asister, Florence Naatz of Austin; special niece, Carol McAlister of Austin and many other relatives and friends.. Her parents; husband, Harry F. Rappe; greatgrandson, Mitchell Given; five brothers, Harry, Raymond, George, Reuben and Emil, Jr. and one sister, Evelyn Vacura, preceded her in death.

Funeral services:11 a.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Daniel M. Provost officiating. Interment: Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation: 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, August 9, at Worlein Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday.

Edith L. Rasmussen, 89, of Grand Meadow, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at the Grand Meadow Heath Care Center.

She was born April 24, 1912, in Latimer, Iowa, to John and Bertha Klusmeier.

She graduated from Otranto, Iowa.

She married Alvin Rasmussen in Lake City, Minn. Feb. 22, 1936. He died June 26, 1966.

After their marriage they moved to the Grand Meadow area in 1943 where they farmed. In 1951 they moved into Grand Meadow.

She married Ralph Rasmussen Sept. 26, 1968, at Grand Meadow Lutheran Church.

She was a member of the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aide.

She worked for Farmers-Produce in Grand Meadow and worked as a custodian for the Grand Meadow school for a short time.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and flowers.

Survivors include her husband Ralph, Grand Meadow; daughter, Donna Hall, Grand Meadow; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Alice Rasmussen, Wykoff; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Verdie Carlson, Austin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; one great-granddaughter, Nicole; four sisters and two brothers.

Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church with Rev. Bernard Daiker officiating.

Visitation: At the church from 12 noon until the service on Tuesday.

Interment: Grand Meadow Cemetery.

OBITUARY-

Darryl Gene Rawn, 30, of St. Ansgar, died Sunday November 12, 1995, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, Iowa.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Sept. 16th, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Norman E. Betke officiating.

Burial was in the Woodbury Cemetery, rural Lyle, Minn.

Darryl Gene Rawn was born Oct. 5, 1965, in Osage.

Survivors include his mother, Sharon Rawn of Osage; a daughter, Carrie, of St. Ansgar; a son, Travis of St. Ansgar; three sisters, Jill McCarville of Cresco, Susan Reentz of Minneapolis and Carol Oulman of Osage; and one brother, Craig Rawn of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his father.

The Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, was in charge of arrangements.

Pearl Marie Fritcher Rawn, age 88, of Adams, formerly of Lyle, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Adams Health Care Center. She was the daughter of Lee and Mami Fritcher of St. Ansgar, Iowa. She was born Jan. 17, 1916. Pearl moved to Otranto, Iowa, with her parents in 1916. She lived 21 years at Otranto, graduating in 1933 from Otranto Consolidated School.

Pearl was married in April 1938 to Rufus Rawn, of Lyle, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed northwest of Lyle for 44 years. Rufus passed away September of 1982.

Pearl stayed on the farm for three years and then moved into Lyle until June 1999 when she went to Adams Health Care Center in Adams, Minn. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle. A member of Our Saviors WELCA, Mary Circle, the Lyle Senior Citizens, Woodbury Willing Workers and Pythian Sisters of Lyle. She worked for neighbors doing housework and at the cafe in Lyle.

After she was married she worked for Burghard Produce, the Gamble Store in Lyle and for seven years in the fall at Hollandale picking potatoes. She worked for Austin Drug for 23 years, retiring in 1979. She loved to travel, take pictures and spend time with her children and their families.

She is survived by daughters and son-in-laws: Beverly De Maris, St. Ansgar, Iowa; Mary Lou and Ray Ringham, Mason City, Iowa; Betty and Gregg Johnson, Lyle; Debra and Jim Whalen, Winona, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Zella and Gerald Francis, Osage, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Doris Fritcher, Sunland, Calif.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Rufus; a son and daughter in infancy, a granddaughter in infancy; son-in-law Wayne De Maris; and brother, Roy Fritcher.

Casket bearers are Alan De Maris, Mike De Maris, Larry Johnson, James Johnson, Marty Johnson and Ryan Whalen. Honorary bearers are Linda De Maris, Julie Hansen, Nancy Flannery, Sandra Barnes, Patti Kisner, Andrea Schroeder and Jennifer Whalen.

Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Lyle, with the Rev. Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Interment will be in the Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle Township. Visitation will he held at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary today from 4-7 p.m. and on Monday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church for one hour before the service.

 

Donna Mae Seberson, 77, of Austin, Minnesota, died on Friday, April 27, 2007 at Austin Medical Center.

Donna Mae Raymond was born on November 25, 1929 in Madelia, Minnesota, to George and Hertha (Miller) Raymond.

She graduated from Austin High School, and then worked for the Geo. A. Hormel Co.

She married Dennis B. Seberson on Aug. 15, 1959, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Seberson, of Austin; by her sons: Lon Newman of Wausau, Wisconsin; Kelly Seberson, of Austin; Craig Seberson, of Shakopee, Minnesota; by her grandchildren: Rachel, Taylor and Grace; by a sisters, Gertrude Lervaag, of Mankato, Minnesota, and Bonnie Swanson, of Mankato, Minnesota; and by nieces and nephews.

Donna Mae was preceded in death by an infant son and a daughter; by her parents; and by three brothers.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Ron Barnett officiating. Interment was in Grandview Cemetery, Austin.
