Otter Tail County MN GenWeb The MN GenWeb Project In July 1996, the page for Minnesota GenWeb was started. We are proud to be a part of the USGenWeb project, which is an effort to organize genealogical materials on the Internet. Our goal is to provide a web site specializing in genealogy in Minnesota with an emphasis on the county level. Our project's success is only possible through the support of volunteers. My name is Jan, and I am the person responsible for Otter Tail County. If you would like to contribute your information to this page, please let me know. Take a look at Surrounding Counties It is best to also check records in surrounding counties for your ancestors. Some of the reasons are: New counties divided out of old larger counties as the population grew. Many of Otter Tail County residents traveled to other counties for business and legal matters. Some records are there because they had family in that county and when they visited they stayed for long periods due to transportation, or a major life event would take place such as births, deaths, marriages. Another reason is a family lived on the edge of Otter Tail County and were closer to a larger town in the next county, and went there to register a vital event.
