Churches of S.E. Minnesota - Sunday April 25 at 2:00PM
History Center Basement
Admission by donation
Nancy Powell has spent many years researching the small churches in south-eastern Minnesota and will share slides and stories from her research. She also welcomes people to share their stories of churches in the area.
Thursday April 29 - Third Grade History Center Day
Third graders in PEM schools will spend the day in small groups participating in hands-on activities featuring the county school experience and phonographs of the past.
May 2010
Saturday May 8, 1-4 PM - Bluebell Festival
Admission by donation
The History Center will join the community celebration by featuring a display on the history of Carley State Park. The daylong celebration includes many events in Plainview and Carley State Park, located two miles south of Plainview.
June 2010
Saturday June 26, 1-3 PM - Cemetery Walk
Admission $3
Historic Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview will be the site of the annual Cemetery Walk. Walks start every thirty minutes. Costumed actors will portray characters from Plainview’s past.
July 2010
Wednesday Evenings, July 7 & 14, 6:30-7:30 PM - Mystery Walks
Admission $2 for each walk
Put on your walking shoes and join in the fun while partaking in a mystery walk. No one knows where it will go, but for one hour, participants will be led through historic sites found within walking distance in Plainview.
August 2010
Thursday–Sunday, August 5-8th - Prairie Town Musical “The Vote”
Admission - $10 presale. $12 at the door.
Once again the History Center will showcase another original musical featuring the fictional village of Prairie Town. This year’s musical is entitled “The Vote” and takes place in 1910 centering around the mayor and the town’s librarian and their dispute over the city budget. There are lots of laughs and plenty of toe tapping tunes.
Performances are 7:30 PM Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a matinee on Sunday at 2:00PM. Admission is $10 for advance sales and $12 at the door. Advanced tickets can be purchased one week prior to opening at First National Bank.
Saturday August 21, 1-4 PM - J.R. Watkins’ Birthday at the Watkins House
Admission by donation
This year marks the 170th year since J.R. Watkins’ birth. Join the fun and have some cake and ice cream at the J.R. Watkins House and enjoy the exhibits and memorabilia.
December 2010
Saturday December 4, 1-8:30 PM - Olde Fashioned Christmas
Admission by donation
Come to the History Center and experience a good olde fashioned Christmas celebration as the Center joins the community in the unique festival. The Center will be decked out in all its Christmas finery including a 12 foot tree decorated with old fashioned ornaments.
From 6:30 -8:30 the Center will feature Christmas carols every half hour accompanied by their one-of-a-kind antique organ. Come and enjoy seeing it “cranked” as the reed organ entertains the crowd. The community features a daylong event with lots of events for everyone.
Saturday & Sunday December 18 & 19, 1-4 PM - Watkins Christmas Weekend

Come and enjoy cookies and cider and enjoy the Watkins house decorated for the Christmas season. See the Christmas tree decorated with Watkins products.
