The research facilities of the History Center are available for use at the following rates:

Unlimited research with current membership card
A $2 fee will be charged per day to use the research facility payable upon entry

Research Requests: The History Center will do research on queries on a first come basis. The rate for this service is:

$8 per hour with a minimum charge of $5
Cost for photo copies will be 20 cents per sheet
Picture copies will be available at a $2.75 charge for a 8x10 laser print
$10 per hour with a minimum charge of $5
Cost for photo copies will be 25 cents per sheet
Picture copies will be available at a $3 charge for a 8x10 laser print

Research Log: Each researcher will be required to log materials used. The purpose is to keep track of materials most used and minimize stolen materials.

Newspaper Materials

  • Plainview News (1879-2003, Obituary index from 1879-2003, Wedding index from 1879-2000)
  • Kellogg Enterprise (Index 1903-1918)
  • Elgin Monitor (Wedding Index 1904-1942, The newspapers have been given to the History Center of Olmsted County.
  • Millville Review (28 scattered issues from 1901-1973)

Cemetary Records

  • Plainview Greenwood Cemetery (This index is based on a cemetery walk in the 1980's identifying every marked grave at that time.  The City of Plainview has current records, but this is the best source of the old family grave sites.)
  • Beaver, MN Cemetery Map (Located about 6 miles east of Plainview in Winona County)
  • Pleasant Valley Cemetery (Located about 4 miles south of Plainview in Quincy township, Olmsted County)

Mailing Fee: All materials mailed will be charged a mailing fee according to the bulk of materials.

The Plainview Area History Center is a non-profit organization. The Center receives no tax dollars for its operation expenses. It is staffed entirely by volunteers. It relies on the generous donations of people interested in supporting the efforts of the Center to preserve and promote the history of the Plainview area.
