ANDERSON, EIDE, BUHN, BLOWER, EKSTROM
I am looking for some of the descendents of my great-grandparents Thor Anderson Eide and
Siri Sjursdotter. They came to North America through Quebec in 1867 and settled
first in Iowa. The family came to Polk County, Godfry TS in 1882. My missing
links are the children of Mary Anderson and Peter Ekstrom (married 1885 8 children);
Ella Anderson and John Buhn(married 1888 8 children) and Lydia or Lyda Anderson and Harry
Blower. I have traced the family back quite far in Norway, but have not connected
with many of the descendents. My grandfather was Thor Andreas (Andrew) Anderson.

BANGEN
Hello, I am doing research for our local archives on Simon Bangen the
photographer that arrived with the original settlers here in 1894 from the
Climax area. He took superb landscape shots of the settlers and their homes and
families during the first three years of settlement here in Bella Coola British
Columbia. I have located about 80 originals of this type and about 10 portraits
and I know there are more in
family collections in Minnesota. Simon returned to Crookston Minnesota in 1897
and died in Aug 1946. We have found out so far that 1910 census on him states
"salesman groceries / mail." If anyone could give me any leads at all or as who
could help me I would be grateful. Photographs from Bella Coola that he took or
photos of his home and family in Minnesota. Have photos of him and family here
at his homestead cabin and anexcellent portrait of him and son's Christian and
William taken about 1910 and I would be pleased to give descendants copies. We
have names of his children, grandchildren and a few g grandchildren. Of these we
are particularly interested from hearing from any of the Huehn family from Big
Lake Minnesota or Morken families from California.
Thank you,
Peter Solhjell
Simon Oleson Bangen was born 25 June 1862 in Bardu, Troms, Norway, and
died 23 aug 1946 in Crookston, Polk Co. Minnesota.

BEAUDRY / BENOIT / LEGROSS
According to the death record of my great grandfather Euclid BEAUDRY, his father's name
was Alfred, his mother's name was listed as not known in the record. Euclid's family lived
in Polk County by at least 1882 when Euclid applied for his US citizenship, which was
approved in Polk County in 1891. He was born in Canada and emigrated to the US in 1880 via
Port Huron, MI. He would have been only 16 in 1880 so it possible he could have come with
his parents or other relatives. I'm looking for any record of an Alfred BEAUDRY in Polk
County between 1880 and 1896 when the area where they lived--Lake Pleasant--became part of
Red Lake County. One of the witnesses to Euclid's citizenship papers was a J. T. BEAUDRY.
It is likely this was also a relative. I'm interested in any information on how they were
related. Among the BEAUDRY death records in Crookston is one for a Philomine BEAUDRY on
9/19/1894. She was 57 years old and born in Quebec. The names Pascal BENOIT and Archange
LEGROSS were listed in the record, I assume as parents. I'm looking for any information to
indicate if she is or is not related to my BEAUDRY line.

CONNER/HALVORSON
Alanson Conner died in Bagley, Clearwater
County, Minnesota on November 19, 1907. Will probably be hard to find an obit
for him due to no county paper at that time. The death cert. indicates he was
born in France ? 1830.
Elvira Conner died on October 15, 1938 in Bagley and there should be an obituary
with information.
They had a son Johnny Conner and he was just written up in our county historical
society paper which came in today's mail:
Johnny Conner
Do you remember the man that dressed in a dark, long coat that walked the
streets in Bagley carrying a kerosene lantern and umbrella? Back in the 1940s
Johnny Conner lived in a small building south of the railroad tracks at the end
of Clearwater Ave. near the Olson slaughterhouse and the Bartz residence.
He worked for O. M. Kolb (former banker) who owned a gas station and a wood
yard. Johnny was Kolb's handyman and errand person.
Very little is really known about him.
It has been said he moved from Fosston to this area and years earlier his
brothers and sisters had died from diptheria.
Some say his mother was a gypsy and his father was a Civil War veteran. He is
said to have been a mystic- maybe a person that arouses curiosity or wonder.
Also, Johnny was a person who claimed the ability to predict the future from
reading coffee cup grounds.
Johnny was a quiet, humble and mysterious man that is part of the county
history.
Alanson's death cert. says his mother's maiden name was Halvorson

LEGROSS were listed in the record, I assume as parents. I'm looking for any information to

OIEN / OYEN / ANDERSEN
I am searching for information on where my Grandfather lived while he was in the
USA. Born 1872 in Ytre Rendal, Norway. Sailed from Kristiania (Oslo) Dec 4, 1891
en route to New York, and arrived there on December 21/1891.
Melkor's birth records list him as Melkor Gurenus ANDERSEN. His departure from
Norway lists him as Melkior Andersen ØIEN. Andreas went by the name Andrew, and
stayed in the US until 1909, when he walked to what is now Oyen, Alberta in
Canada from Spokane Washington. Andrew is listed on the 1900 census as Andrew
A. Oyen of Crookston, MN. A fellow named Gilbert Undseth often signed documents
for Andrew, and I think this may have been Bertin Olsen Undset who left Rendal,
Norway at the same time as Andrew did (1889). Another person who seems to be
connected is Ted Momb, and maybe he was Tomine Momb who also the Rendal Region
of Norway in 1889. The Momb and Undseth families may also have gone to Canada
to live later on.
Crossing into Canada seems to have changed the last name to OYEN from the OIEN
spelling used in the US. Melkor and Andrew also had an older brother Gustav,
born in 1867, who may also have traveled with them. Gustav is thought to have
lived and died in the Chicago area. They all departed Norway at different times,
as far as I know.
I am wondering if Melkor changed his name to Mike Anderson/Anderson and went to
North Dakota to homestead. There seems to have been a person in the Rugby or
Brazil or Devil's Lake Area of Pierce County, North Dakota who has very very
similar information, including a wife named Bertine/Berntine Anderson by 1908.
This Mike Andersen/son started out in Aiken County, MN. Persons named Halvor
N. Vold, Edwin Hoff, and H. O. Fossum often signed documents stating that they
were well acquainted with Mike Anderson.
Melkor returned to Norway somewhere around 1906? or 1907? and married Bertine/Berntine/Berthine
BOLSTAD, the sister of his brother Simon's wife Synøve. Bertine also had
another sister Alma and brothers Berent and Baard. Alma and Berent stayed in
Norway but Baard went to Canada to farm for a number of years, and later in his
older years, returned to Norway.
In 1910, Melkior went to Canada where he became Melcor (Mike) OYEN/OIEN. If
anyone knows their whereabouts of any of these three brother during the 1890's
until 1909 (the time period when they were in the USA), I would be very grateful
for the information. I can be reached at
sandyoc@runbox.com or at
oyen@shaw.ca Thanks, Sandy Oyen-Cumberford

STEENERSON/ ANDERSON
I am researching my great-grandfather, Henry S. ANDERSON, who lived in Polk County from
1877 to 1879, with his wife, Marit Lyseng and their two small children. Henry's
sister, Maria, was born in Goodhue County, MN in the 1850's and later became Mrs. Knute
STEENERSON of Crookston. The Polk County history indicates that a Steenerson family
moved into the County in 1871. Maria may have been with this group. I would
guess that Henry's move in 1877 is somehow connected to Maria's move. Henry acquired
cattle and property in Polk County before moving on. I am wondering whether there
are descendants of Maria Steenerson in Polk County that have information about Maria, her
family and ancestors. I have a family tree tracing the family back to Norway that I
would be happy to share. Thank you.
