Ernest King shot himself Monday, Sept 10, 1923 and
died a few minutes later at his home on Bridge
street. The probable cause of his action was
despondency. He had been the driver of the school
bus and had attended to his work as usual Monday
morning.
At noon he went out to the barn at the back of his
house, and his step-daughter, hearing the shoot
rushed out to see what had happened. Help was
immediately summoned and medical aid rushed to the
hospital but it was too late to be of any
assistance.
Upon inquiry it was found that Mr. King purchased
a revolver at one of the hardware stores last
Saturday afternoon, saying that he wanted to shoot
some rats. Evidently he was contemplating suicide
at the time because the price tag had not been
removed from the gun and it was not fully loaded
when found Monday. These facts indicates a mental
derangement which his friends believe was cause by
despondency. A coroner's jury was sworn in Monday
afternoon and the inquest was held Tuesday
afternoon.
Funeral services for Mr. King will be held at the
Church of Christ Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. C.
F. Martin officiating. Interment will be made in
the Redwood Falls Cemetery beside the body of his
first wife who passed away several years ago.

Christenson of Springfield, Minnesota and his two

(George) King.
