Kenneth King, 69 a resident of Redwood Falls for
67 years, died Tuesday evening at Redwood Falls
hospital of a self-inflected shotgun wound. The
injury was in the stomach area and a 12 gauge
shotgun was found beside him in the basement of
his home, 510 East Plum Street. He had been in
poor health for years. Redwood Falls ambulance
crew took him to the hospital where he died a few
hours later. Dr. James B Flinn, deputy Redwood
county coroner, signed the death certificate.
Services will be held Friday at the Hoepner
funeral home with Howard Bloomquist; pastor of the
Church of Christ, officiating. Pallbearers
will be Clarence Breitkreutz and Howard Gaffney of
Renville, Rolland Gaffney of Maynard, Ralph
Gaffney of Minneapolis, Harold Arnett and Glenn
Von Mosch. Interment will be in the Redwood Falls
cemetery.
Mr. King was born August 25, 1900 in Heron Lake, a
son of Ernest and Emma Moore King. The family
moved to Redwood Falls in 1903 and he married Ruth
Gaffney in the Middle Creek Evangelical United
Brethren church parsonage December 23, 1938. They
lived in Redwood Falls where he worked for the
public utilities commission from 1936 to 1948. He
worked at the carpenter trade until retiring in
1962.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; a son, Robert of
Minneapolis; daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Ann) Dewing of
Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Mrs. David (Janet)
Duncan of Nevis; six grandchildren; and a sister,
Mrs. Paul (Grace) Christensen of St. Paul. Two
brothers preceded him in death.
