MRS. EZRA TRUESDELL
DEAD
Mrs. Rachel Mabie Truesdell, wife of the late Ezra
Truesdell and mother of the various Truesdells in
and around this city, died** at her home on
Washington Ave at 3 o'clock last Friday morning.
Old age was the principal cause, the deceased
being nearly 83 years old at the time of her
death. Mrs. Truesdell was up and doing housework
3 weeks ago. At that time she was weakening and a
slight cold forced her to take to the bed. From
the bed she never arose and gradually grew weaker
until the end came last Friday. The funeral
occurred from the residence at 2 o'clock last
Saturday afternoon, Rev. John Sinclair of the
Presbyterian Church officiating. The interment
occurred in the Redwood Cemetery and it, as well
as the funeral, was attended by a large number of
friends and acquaintances of the family.
The deceased was born in New York State. She was
married at the age of 21 to Ezra Truesdell, a late
well-known fellow townsman. The two resided in
Pennsylvania for a time and then moved west to
Ohio where they resided until 1855, when they came
to Minnesota, settling in Goodhue County. Here
they resided until 1869 when they came to Redwood
County, settling on the farm one mile east of the
city. They resided there for a number of years
after which they moved in town and resided where
death occurred ever since. She was the mother of
9 boys and 4 girls, 13 children in all, of which
nine are still living, five boys and four girls.
While not generally known, on account of her
preferred retirement, she was warmly attached to
her children and preferred the domestic to the
social life.
