WASHINGTON TRUESDELL

1848 - 1902

 DEATH OF WASHINGTON TRUESDELL

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OLD SETTLER AND WELL KNOWN CITIZEN JOINS THE GREAT MAJORITY.
    - Washington Truesdell, one of the earliest settlers of Redwood county, and a well-know citizen of this city, passed away at 7 o'clock on Tues evening of last week after an illness extending over several months.  A post postmortem revealed that cancer of the liver was the cause of death.  The deceased was operated upon for the enlargement of a portion of his face at the Rochester hospital several weeks ago and so successful was this operation that it was thought that nothing more ailed the patient and that he would recover and enjoy good health.  He returned to this city apparently well rid of his troubles, but shortly after he returned he was obliged to remain at his residence.  He commenced sinking and a day or two prior to his death the sinking was rapid.  Life ebbed away with apparently but little suffering on the part of the patient.
     The funeral was held from the Presbyterian Church at 2 o'clock Thurs afternoon, Rev F J Barackman officiating.  The interment occurred in the Redwood Cemetery.
      Washington Truesdell was the son of the late Ezra Truesdell.  He was born in Chatham, Medina County Ohio on March 6, 1848, he being the 8th child in a family of 13 - 9 boys and 4 girls.  Of this family three boys and three girls survive the deceased.  When the Truesdells moved from Ohio to Goodhue County, this State, nearly all of the children accompanied the parents.  Washington came to Redwood Falls on May 10, 1869, on the steamer Otter, one of the first boats up the Minnesota River.  He has resided here ever since.
     The deceased was married to Hulda Cornish on Sept 3, 1881, and the wife and two children, Clara and Effie, survive the husband and father.
