1830 Federal Census Roseau County, Minnesota
In 1830, most of what is now Roseau County was as yet unorganized territory. A very small section in the northwest corner was part of Chippewa county in the Michigan Territory. This federal census is extant.1 

1840 Federal Census Roseau County, Minnesota
In 1840, most of what is now Roseau County was part of the Iowa Territory. The same very small section of the northwest corner referenced above was now part of Wisconsin Territory. This federal census is extant.1 

1850 Federal Census Roseau County, Minnesota
In 1849, Minnesota became a territory. In 1850, all of what is now Roseau County was in Pembina County in the Minnesota Territory. Just over half of what was then Pembina County is now part of North Dakota. This federal census is extant.1 

1857 Federal Census Roseau County, Minnesota
In 1857, Minnesota Territory conducted it's own population census. At that time, all of what is now Roseau County was in Pembina County. This federal census is extant.1 

1860 Federal Census Roseau County, Minnesota
In 1858, Minnesota became a state. In 1860, all of what is now Roseau County was in Pembina County in the Minnesota Territory. This federal census is extant.1 

1870 Federal Census Roseau County, Minnesota
In 1870, all of what is now Roseau County was in Pembina County in the Minnesota Territory. The federal government's copy of this census was destroyed. The state's copy for all counties is filmed by the National Archives as T132.1 

1880 Federal Census Roseau County, Minnesota
In 1878, Pembina county was renamed Kittson. In 1880, the western half of what is now Roseau County was in Kittson County. The eastern half was in Beltrami County. This federal census is extant.1 

1890 Federal Census Roseau County, Minnesota
In 1890, the western half of what is now Roseau County was in Kittson County. The eastern half was in Beltrami County. This federal census is lost due to fire.1 An 1890 Census Substitute is available from Ancestry.com.
