James Earl Adams

James was born in St. Vincent, Minnesota on October 31, 1898 and moved with his family to Portage La Prairie in 1905. He worked on the family farm until his marriage to Hazel Bernath of Pembina, North Dakota. They were married January 4, 1930, in Winnipeg and moved to their farm at 35-11-8 in the Burnside district, April, 1930. In October, 1948, they bought and moved to a farm in the rolling hills near Pratt, south of Austin, Manitoba. They had no children but during World War II, Bob Bryce came from Scotland to live with them. He returned to his home in Scotland after the war where he lived until his return to Jim and Hazel's home on December 25, 1946, where he helped with the farming. They did mixed farming and raised cattle. Jim died at home February 17, 1962, and is buried in the Austin Cemetery. Bob and Hazel continued to farm and built a new house in 1966, where they live, along with Bob's wife, Connie, and their three children: Robert, Andrew, and Cathy. Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a friendly and helpful neighbor who was a hard worker.
