Walter Adams

Walter was born at Burnside on the home farm at 32-11-8 on October 2, 1909. He was educated at Burnside School and Portage Collegiate. He worked on his father's farm until his marriage in 1935 to Beryl Scharff, who was born in Benito, Manitoba. Beryl graduated from the Portage General Hospital as a Registered Nurse in 1932. They farmed at 28-11-8 and their farm house was on the bank of Rat Creek. They raised four chldren: Jean (Mrs. Robert Chapman), Betty (Mrs. Ken Johnson), Perry, and Sandra (Mrs. John Wood).

Walter did mixed farmiing and raised purebred Herefords. All the family participated in 4-H and won many prizes at MacGregor Fair and Portage Fair with their cattle, grain, baking and preserving. Beryl was very active in Church work and was a life member of the United Church Women. She died March 18, 1970, and is buried in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Portage. Walter married Anne Loewen, of Brandon, on September 3, 1971, and they continued to farm until they retired to live in Portage in 1974, at 117 - 3rd St. N.W., where they still live at the present time. Walter is very interested in sports. In the past, he attended many ball games in Portage and still spends a lot of time watching various sports on TV and listening to them on the radio. Over the years he enjoyed fishing and hunting deer and ducks. He and Anne spend many hours playiing cards and cribbage, both at home and with their many friends. They also enjoy visiting with their many relatives.

(Russel Hart has pictures of Walter with his display of arrow and spearheads found during fieldwork near Rat Creek)
