Park Rapids, Minn. - James (Jim) A. Bernath, 89, Park Rapids, died June 1, 2000, Rosewood on Broadway Nursing Home in Fargo.
Jim was born Jan. 9, 1911, in Hill Township, to John N. and Jessie Bernath. He attended schools in St. Vincent and Pembina.
After graduation, Jim farmed in the Hallock area. In the same area he met and married Dora Pearson, June 2, 1935. This union was blessed with two children: Mary Ann and Jerald.
The family farmed in Kittson County until 1976, when they retired and moved to Lake BelleTaine near Nevis.
Jim was a 50 year charter member of the Hallock Eagles, Director and Officer of Humboldt Elevator Association for 24 years, and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Park Rapids. Jim loved gardening, expecially raising roses and enjoyed his time at the lake. Above all, Jim loved his family with all his heart.
Family survivors are his daughter, Mary Ann (Steven) Burley, Fargo; son, Jerald (Betty) Bernath, West Fargo; sister, Dorothy (Porter) Johnson, Grand Forks; three grandsons, granddaughter; "special friend" Florence Fuller, Park Rapids.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters: Ethel (Carl) Lundeen and June (Bill) Moore; and brother, Wilbur (Barney) Bernath.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Monday, June 5, 2000, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Park Rapids with Father John Husband officiating. The organist was John Sanders.
Pallbearers were James N. Bernath, Julian D. Bernath, Jerrod E. Bernath, Michelle M. Burley, Craig Bernath and Gary Bernath. Honorary pallbearers were Ed Bernath and Bill Moore. Interment was at the Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock, Tuesday, June 6.
Jones-Pearson Funeral Home, Park Rapids, was in charge of arrangements.
