William Burris, his wife, Nellie and their six children left their farm in Nebraska in March 1903 and came to Kittson County, MN. They bought a farm 1/2 mile east of Hallock. While living there, the Burris children attended the old Hallock High School. some of their early teachers were: Prof. Bothe, Prof. A. A. Hays, Clara Boe, Cora McVean, Miss Slattengren, and Miss Brohaugh.

Talmah G. Kosch

Talmah G. Kosch, 100, Columbus, NE, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at the Columbus Community Hospital.

Talmah G. Kosch was born Nov. 13, 1899, at Humphrey, NE, the dauther of William and Josephine (Graves) Burris.

Talmah graduated from Hallock High School in 1918. She attended Moorhead State University in Minnesota, Kearney State College, and graduated from Wayne State College with a Bachelors Degree in elementary education.

She was a school teacher for 30 years. She was a member and past president of the Retired Teachers Association, charter member and past present of AARP, she taught piano and organ lessons, member of the senior citizens and played in the Mulligan Stew Band, Platte County Historical Society, election board, Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed bowling.

She was united in marriage to Frank Kosch in 1938, in Lincoln, NE.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, organist for 30 years. Sunday School teacher for 30 years, UMW, Keystone Club and Epworth League.

Surviving are a daughter, Geanne (Jerry) Grimes-Chlopek, Columbus, NE.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, Enos and Ira Burris, and three sisters, Inus Echola, Pearlah Hook, and Elizabeth Olson.

Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 6, at First United Methodist Church, Columbus, Dr. Dave Patterson officiated.

McKown Funeral Home of Columbus was in charge of arrangements.
