Jerry Cannon said his great grandfather and grandfather came to Northcote in 1880 and both homesteaded 160 acres just south of Northcote. Grandpa died in 1927. His father moved to Cedro Wooley, Washington in 1901. Grandpa owned a store in Northcote for many years. He was born in St. Alphonse, Quebec, Canada. His father came to Canada around 1840 with his parents, Darby and Bridgt O'Mally Cannon from Ireland.

Grandmother, Rose Rafferty, was born in Green Bay, WI. Her parents were Patrick and Catherine Johnston Rafferty. They came to Boston around 1857, moved to Green Bay, WI and then to Northcote in 1878.

Grandfather, George Burns, came to NE North Dakota around 1902. He farmed by Joliette, ND for a few years and died pretty young. He married Diana LaRoche who was born in North Dakota. George was born in Bellville, Ontario, Canada.

Great grand parents, La Berge, have been traced back to 1620 in the Montreal area.

Ella Cannon

Ella Cannon, 91, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1997 in St. Louis Park.

Ella was born to George and Diana Burns, May 2, 1905 in Joliette.

She was united in marriage to Cyril Cannon March 4, 1924 in St. Patrick's Church, Hallock.

They lived in the Hallock area until 1952. They moved to New Ulm at this time.

From there, they moved to Mankato in 1956, where Ella took a job with J. C. Penny's. She worked for them for about the next 15 years. Cyril died in 1965 and Ella moved to Richfield, where she continued to work for Penny's.

She is survived by children, Dale and his wife Janet, Wausau, Wisc.; Jerry and his wife Bernice, Cleveland; Donna and her husband Floyd Hoops, Richfield; Pat and his wife Toni, Rockland, Mass.; Tom, Hutchinson, and Colleen, Cincinnati, Ohio; 22 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; three brothers, Carl, hemet, Calif.; Bob, Milwaukee, and George, Cambridge; two sisters, Blance Myrick, Cavalier and Ruth Hord, Richfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers Jim, Glen and Raus.

A Mass was held Feb. 15 at St. Richards Catholic Church, Richfield. Interment was in Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights.

Pallbearers were grandchildren Pat, Jim, Laurel and Kevin Cannon, Ann and Joe Hoops.
