Frances Clow, 82, Ashland, Wis., died Monday, Aug 16, 1999 at her home at the Tender Elder Care in Ashland.
She was born Dec. 14, 1916, in rural Hawick, Minn., the daugher of Jens Peter and Hattie (Quist) Gravgaard.
Frances moved with her family to Kennedy in 1920. Except for eight years spent in Fargo, where she was employed at the North Dakota State University as a secretary, she resided most of her life in Kittson County. She was united in marriage Dec. 26, 1942 to LaVerne Clow in Orleans. The couple farmed in that area until retirement in 1975 when they moved to Hallock.
She moved to Ashland in August of 1995 and had been currently residing at the Tender Elder Care home in Ashland.
Besides being a mother and a care giver, she was active in her church and community. She served on the church council, various service committess, president of the Lutheran Church Women, and was an accompanist for the Golden Age Singers for over 15 years.
She assisted in organizing the first Homemaker Clubs in Kittson County, served on the County Welfare Board, was a 4-H Club leader and a charter memgber of the Hallock Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock, and associate member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Ashland.
She is survived by one sone, Richard (Wanda) Clow, Orleans; two daughters, Susan (Ralph) Bloomfield, Ramsey, and Kathryn (Dale) Chesley, Ashland; six granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and one sister, Lyla Clow, Ashland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LaVerne, Dec. 29, 1975, and a brother, Milton.
A memorial service was held 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Ashland, with Pastor Dale Chesley officiating.
A memorial service was also held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999 at Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock. Rev. Ken Losch officiating. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock.
