Thalbert Clow emigrated from Charlottetown, PEI, with his parents when he was four years old. He was educated in what was called the North Ridge School. He married a neighbor girl, Effie McIlraith, in 1905. They were married 60 years and had nine children who were all born at home except Edith and Doris who were born in the Hallock Hospital. Thal and Effie always lived on the same farm, having built the house when they got married. Thal died in 1966. Son, LaVerne, took over the farm from his father in 1940 and ran it until illness forced him to retire in 1975, when his son, Richard, took over.

She was born Sep 15, 1884, to William Clow and Mary McIlraith in Clow Township. She attended school in rural Kittson County and had lived her entire life in Clow Township, Kittson County. After their marriage, the couple farmed until retirement. Mr. Clow died in 1966. Since 1972, she had been a resident of the Kittson Memorial Nursing Home. She was a member of the Hallock First Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by three sons: Raymond of Hallock; Lloyd of Grand Forks; Harold of Portland, OR; four daughters: Hazel Peterson of Fargo; Violet Runquist of Lake Bronson; Laurinne (Mrs Bob Olson) of Darby, MO; and Doris Stahl of Denver, CO; 25 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; two sisters: Margaret (Mrs. Silas Stites), Stockton, CA; Edith Hillestad of Hoquiam, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, one daughter, six brothers, and one sister.

Funeral services were held Dec 7th at the First Presbyterian Church, Hallock, Mn., with Rev. Kay Beaulac and Rev. Dale Chesley and Rev. Dan Cole officiating. Music was provided by Gloria Swanson, organist, and Lyndon Johnson, soloist. Pallbearers were Ed Mc Vean, Earl Bahr, Marlowe Moe, Paul Sorenson, Ronald Hanson, and Leonard Swanson. Interment was held in the Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock, MN. Arrangements were made with the Hughes Funeral Home of Hallock.

Raymond L. Clow, 90, Hallock, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1996 at Kittson Memorial Nursing Center, Hallock. Raymond was born July 5, 1906 in Clow Township, Kittson County, the son of Thalbert and Effie (McIlraith) Clow and grew up and received his education there.

In 1937 he was united in marriage to Lyla Gravegaard. He lived and farmed in the Orleans area and in later years moved to Hallock. In 1966 he was united in marriage to Mabel Glad. She died April 5, 1995. Raymond was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock.

Family members include two daughters, Linda Rae Dietz, Wahpeton; Jean Karen (Paul) Frederickson, Durango, Colo.; two sons, Lawrence Peter (Joan) Clow, Denver, Colo.; Warren John (Pat) Clow, Mason, Wis.; 11 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, also two brothers, Harold (Frances) Clow, Portland, Ore.; Lloyd (Margaret) Clow, Grand Forks; four sisters, Hazel Peterson, Fargo; Laurinne (Bob) Olson, Kimberling City, Mo.; Violet Rundquist, Lake Bronson; and Doris Stahl, Englewood, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother LaVerne Clow, a sister Edith Simonson, and his wife, Mabel.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 28, 1996, 10:00 A.M., Grace Lutheran Church, Hallock. Rev. Kenneth Losch officiated with interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock. Music for the service was provided by Phil Volkman, organist and Joel Vagle, soloist. Pallbearers were, Larry Nelson, Allen Clow, Robert Clow, Charles Gatheridge, and Kendall Hunter. Arrangements were with Hughes Funeral Home, Hallock.
