Bob Cowan, St. Vincent, is spending a few days with friendsin Hallock.
Oscar Nelson is this week acting as type, editor and allaround printer's devil at the news office in the absence of E. P. who isattending the editors convention at St. Paul.
Last week a number of Odd Fellows drove out to Mr. Wm.Thompson's to make him a brotherly call on his sixtieth birthday. Mr. Thompsonhas been in poor health for a long time and is still confined to his bedand the visit from the brothers of his lodge was indeed a comfort to him.

Miss Karin Haugen arrived in Hallock on the flyer afterjourneying from her home in Oslo, Norway, to visit at the farm of MelvinKullberg northeast of Kennedy.
The "Courage of Lassie" starring Elizabeth Taylor,Frank Morgan and Lassie is currently showing at the Grand Theater.
The Hallock high school hockey team defeated CrookstonA. C. by a score of 3-2. Craigmile in the Crookston nets played a remarkablegame or the score would have been higher. The game was well attended andproved very interesting as several of the A.C. boys were from this community.
Sam Ransom of Fargo is employed at the Red Owl Store, havingcharge of the meat department. Mr. Ransom comes here highly recommendedhaving had many years of experience in the meat business.
Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Walters entertained at the farm homelast week. The occasion was in celebration of their twenty-third weddinganniversary which was also the same anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Mobergwho were among the guests.
On Monday during the high wind, the T. Winter house inNorthcote, occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Scott Matthew burned.
Revs. Wagner and Engelbretson, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Sylvester,Mrs. E. Gill and Eldon, and Miss Elaine Brown attended a reception at theMission Church in Lancaster honoring Mr. and Mrs. Ole Monson on their fortiethwedding anniversary.
Born to mr. and Mrs. Glen Beck, Lancaster, on Feb. 15,a baby girl.
Misses Edna Olson, Ethyl Thompson, Lenora Murray and Mrs.Alice Winter attended the Metropolitan Artist Ensembel at the high schoolauditorium in Grand Forks.
Freddie Blomquist, well known Lake Bronson farmer, suffereda mishap when hauling a load of hay that might have been more serious thanit was. Using a team of horses to draw a load of hay, a draw pin broke releasingthe horses. The sudden jolt caught him off balance, sending him forwardwith considerable force against the pole. He sustained a gash on his jawrequiring several stitches and hospitalization, although he is not in aserious condition.

Three Humboldt-St.Vincent high school students were presentedhonor certificates at the Business Activity Day at the University of Minnesota,Crookston. they are: Wanda Anderson, Steven Ash, and David Ingeman.
The Village of Lake Bronson opened the doors of the newmunicipal liquor lounge recently.
New church council members were installed at Maria LutheranChurch. They included Robert Dahl, Arden Malnory, Earl Martinson, ErlandErlandson, Lawrence Orsund and youth members, Mark Eukel and Susan Larson.
Jon S. Matthew, son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Matthew, Kennedy,has been promoted to first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. The lieutenantis a 1964 graduate of Kennedy High School.
The Hallock Icemen hockey team defeated the Indus Trojans4-2 and the Baudette Bears 5-3.

Chelsey Hunt, daughter of Hugh and Pam Hunt, was the honoredguest at a baby shower held at the Episcopal Church.
Noel Peterson, Hallock, and Michelle Nelson, Argyle, werecrowned 1987 Sno Daze King and Queen for the University of Minnesota-Crookston(UMC)
Gabriella Mingo, Hallock, and a student at University ofMinnesota-Crookston, wrote the play, "The Dream of the Sergeant Major,"which will be performed by students at UMC.
Congratulations to John Lundberg and Vicki Wiley who weremarried on Feb 14 in Lake Bronson.
Kristen Nordin, daughter of Randy and Peggy Nordin, Lancaster,and Martin Jerome, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Jerome, Humboldt-St.Vincent,will be representing their schools as spelling champs in the regional spellingbee at Northland Community College after winning district spelling beesat their respective schools.
Thirty-three members of the Doris and Carl Swenson familiesheld a party for them on Feb 11 at the Crossroads II in honor of the Swenson's35th wedding anniversary.

Dr. Dori Carlson, Park River, is an author of a new textbookdealing with the treatment of eye diseases. The book, titled "ClinicalOptometric Pharmacology and Therapeutics," and features two chaptersthat she co-authored with Dr. Jeffrey Hiett.
Brad and Rebecca Anderson, son and daughter of Mr. andMrs. Harold Anderson, Hallock, have been honored for their performance inthe Southwestern Company's nationally known marketing program. Both earnedthe coveted top sales award for ranking in the top percentage of studentdealers in personal sales.
Jerry and LuAnn Hennum and family have sold their homein Hallock and this weekend moved to their new home at Baudette.
John and Ivan Twamley, Kennedy, left with their fatherand Brian Ingeman to attend the world championship snowmobile races at EagleRiver, Wisconsin. John Twamley won the main feature race, making him the1992 modified kitty cat world champion.
