1899 - 100 years ago
Axel Blomberg has accepted a position as clerk in the Registerof Deeds office. Axel is a good penman and will no doubt give the captainexcellent satisfaction.
Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, St. Vincent were doing businessin the city. Mr. Smith says in spite of the wet weather seeding and otherfarm operations about St. Vincent and the north end of the county is welladvanced.
John Estlund, Kennedy, was in the city between trains.Mr. Estlund is about to accept a position to go on the road for the MinneapolisThreshing Machine Co., with headquarters at Fargo.
Architect Ross of Grand Forks, was in the city submittingplans and specifications for the new addition to the school house and theproposed opera house. Mr. Ross furnishes a very pretty sketch of an operahouse which can be built for about $7,000.
Kennedy is to incorporate. The election takes place June16. Besides a large lumber yard and several other buildings which have recentlybeen in, several cords of stone are already on the grounds for the foundationof other business structures and whenever you hear anyone say "Kennedyis booming" you can just make up your mind that it is no dream.
1949 - 50 years ago
A deal was consummated in Hallock whereby R. C. Nelson,International Harvester Company dealer disposed of his business to Messrs.R. H. Dappen and E. F. Quade of St. Thomas. Both these men are IH dealersin St. Thomas and have years of experience. Both are family men and willmake their future homes in Hallock.
Miss Bonnie Moberg, Hallock, will teach the summer kindergartenschool this season. Miss Moberg is a graduate of Hallock High School andwill complete a two year course in primary teaching.
The Kittson County locker system which is managed by ArnoldReese of Hallock, has installed a locker unit at Humboldt which has recentlybeen placed in operation.
Glen Mumey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mumey, a sophomoreat Hallock High School, was awarded first place in the ninth Congressionaldistrict, in the essay contest, "What America Means to Me."
Lyyn Ash arrived to visit at Wm. Sylvesters while his parents,Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ash, Dean and Wayne are taking a trip to Washington, D.C.
Dorothy Berard and Hope Bouvette returned from Winona,where they had gone as delegates from Hallock to attend the youth conventionfor the Episcopal Church.
Willis Lilliquist sold his residence in Hallock to DickOlson, prominent local farmer who farms three miles south of Hallock.

The Kittson County unit of the American Cancer Societyannounced their poster winners. They were Kristi Karol, daughter of Mr.and Mrs. David Karol, Lancaster; Roy Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Anderson,Karlstad; and Kenny Snare, son of Kenneth and Dorothy Snare, Hallock.
A business transaction was completed whereby Ed Chounardand Larry Bergh, both of Hallock became the new owners of the Tranberg Bros.Radio and TV. The new owners have renamed the business E & L TV.
Lewie Stromberg purchased the home recently vacated byBetsy Jacobson on Swede Hill.
Mr. and Mrs. Axel Johnson attended graduation for theirgrandson, Roger Malm, at the Chester Fritz Auditorium from the School ofLaw UND. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Malm, Fargo.

A baby girl was born to Rick and Rachel Gustafson May 13at Kittson Memorial Hospital. She has been named Allison Dawn. Grandparentsare Floyd and Martha Nelson, Kennedy, and Lionel and Lou Gustafson, Hallock.She has a brother, Alex, at home.
Jandy Koop and Robert Quade were united in marriage atAssembly of God Church April 28. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs.Ervin Quade and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Koop.
Gary Rice has been hired by Kittson County for HazardousWaste, Affirmative Action and Emergency Services. Officer Gary will takeon his new job June 1.

Janis Jette-Jones and Garold Jette, Polson, Montana, annoucethe engagement of their daughter, Angela Marie, to Stephen Swanson, sonof Charles and Patti Swanson, Hallock. A July 30 wedding is planned.
