Pearl Iten
Pearl Iten, 83, Humboldt died at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in Hallock Wednesday, April 22, 1998.
Pearl Amelia Diamond was born in Hallock March 25, 1915, the daughter of Charles and Lila (Turner) Diamond. She grew up at Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt High School.
On June 30, 1936 she was united in marriage to Clarence Iten in St. Vincent. The couple farmed there for many years.
Pearl worked as a cook at the Humboldt School for a number of years before opening Pearl's Inn at Humboldt in 1965. Pearl was known for her home cooking and the generous portions she served. The cafe was a cornerstone of the community and served as a gathering spot for folks in the area. Pearl ran the cafe until she retired in 1986.
Clarence died Jan. 14, 1981. She became a resident of the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center in 1994. Pearl was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Hallock.
Family members include two children, Gloria (Richard) Maier, Bismarck and Leonard (Judy) Iten, Fargo; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 25, 1998, 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Hallock. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery at Hallock. Rev. Timothy Noah, presiding.
Special music provided by Patti Swanson and Sharlene Klegstad.
Honorary pallbearers were Dean Dagen, Curtis Miller, Alvin Wiese, Hilson Stewart, Bill Gatheridge and Morris Webster.
Pallbearers were Jack Lupien, David Boatz, Keith Finney, Shane Stewart, Marshal Hemmes and Wayne Stewart.
