Kennedy, Minn. - Garfield Erlandson, 88, Kennedy, died Saturday, March 30, 2002 at Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock.
Garfield E. Erlandson was born Nov. 15, 1913 to Richard and Sallie (Hultgren) Erlandson at Kennedy and lived and farmed his entire life in Jupiter Township, Kittson County.
He grew up and attended Enok School through the 8th grade. He graduated from Kennedy High School and attended the University of North Dakota for two years.
When his father became ill, he returned to the family farm in Jupiter Township.
Garfield was active in the community, serving in many capacities. He was a member of the former East Emmaus Lutheran Church and served on the cemetery committee.
He served as a county commissioner for Kittson County for 21 years and also served on the board of the Northwestern Mental Health Center for 18 years.
He was a member of the Kennedy Farmers Elevator Association, Kennedy Lions Club and served for many years as treasurer of the Jupiter Township board.
Family survivors include his sisters, Dorothy Erlandson and Blanche Estlund, both of Fargo; a nephew Greg Estlund, Baldwin, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walden.
Funeral services were Wednesday, April 3, 2002, 2 p.m. Maria Lutheran Church, Kennedy. Interment was in East Emmaus Cemetery, rural Kennedy. Kenneth Losch presided.
Pallbearers were Dale Hultgren, Russell Swenson, Steve Hauert, Joey Hauert, Wallace Olson and Carl Anderson.
Hughes Funeral Home, Hallock was in charge of arrangements.
