Mr. Roy De France

Mr. De France was born in the year 1875 in the state ofPennsylvania. His great grand parents were among the first settlers in theColonial settlement.

At the age of 17 he taught school in Western North Dakota.He came to Dakota in a covered wagon.

In 1906, he came to St.Vincent where he was depot agentfor 4 years. In 1910, he purchased the newspaper in St.Vincent from a Mr.Deacon.

In 1929, he moved his print shop to Pembina and has beeneditor ever since. He is now 96 years old. His age, plus the fact that hispaper was the only hand set newspaper in the county, makes him and his paperunique and of interest to historical groups. Also, he had some followersin his steps because his 5 sons took up the business. All of them learnedthe trade from their father. They learned all of what they know in theirDad's hand set shop.

Later in life, he took up telegraphy and was depot agentfor the Northern Railway in the early 1900's. He was agent at St.Paul andother parts in Minnesota.
