My grandma, Karen Johnson, was born at the Kittson MemorialHospital in Hallock, MN on September 25, 1946. He maiden name was KarenBlomquist. Her parents were Edwin and Mary Blomquist. She had two sistersand two brothers - Eileen, Bruce, Robert and Dorene.
She grew up on a farm in Lake Bronson. The farm is onthe way to the Lake Bronson State Park. She helped her dad with chores,milked cows and fed the cows hay and silage.
Grandma Karen attended the Lake Bronson School from grade1 through grade 12.
On June 5, 1965, she got married to Curtiss Johnson inLake Bronson, MN. They lived on a farm west of Halma. They had six children:Michael, Monty, Matthew, Monica, Michele, and Malainna. She helped on thefarm.
Grandma and Grandpa had a poultry hatchery for 7 years. They hatched ducks, geese, turkeys, chickens and pheasants. They had topick the eggs out of the nests and they had to clean them. They put theeggs in incubaters and had to turn them. Their incubaters held 6,000 eggseach. It would take 390 days for ducklings and goslings to hatch. Grandmaand Grandpa would ship the young birds in cardboard boxes through the LakeBronson Post Office. They shipped to customers in 45 states and in Canada. Grandma liked their poultry hatchery. The poultry hatchery was very busy.
Grandma worked in potatoes in the fall for about 10 years. About 15 years ago, she started working for American Crystal Sugar in Drayton,ND and is still working there.
Grandma Karen likes country music. She has gone to seecountry music singers in Roseau and Thief River. She likes going to playbingo in Hallock and Karlstad.
