Preface

by

Shane Stewart

Each person lives for a short time. During this time, he makes his own little mark. These little marks add up, until finally, there is one long slash. The slash shows what a group of people can do with all these little marks.

The Red River Valley has made a slash in the United States history. The Red River of the North has marks on it made by different people. These people have lived and worked beside the Red River.

The students of Humboldt-St.Vincent High School have tried to uncover some of these little marks which make the Red River Valley such a historic place. The students under the direction of Dale Finney, Jerome Ertelt, and Martha Roberts have located some of these unsung heroes and their various projects.
