Fitzpatrick Family Burying Ground North York, Ontario Lot 5 concession 4, City of North York formerly York Township
This small family burying ground is no longer visible. It was located in the Orchard of William Fitzpatrick's farm lot 5, concession 4, in York Township, now the City of North York. Today this would be located near Lawrence Ave. East and Victoria Park Ave. It is not to be confused with the Wesleyan Methodist Cemetery or Fitzpatrick's Appointment Cemetery which was located at the intersection of the aforementioned streets. The Fitzpatrick family burial ground was a special place set aside by the Fitzpatrick family to bury their dead.
William Fitzpatrick was born in Ireland in 1800. According to his Upper Canada Land Petition, he arrived in the Town of York on July 3, 1826. On January 24, 1832, he was married to Elizabeth Heron by Rev. John Ryerson of the Medodist Church. Elizabeth Heron was the daughter of Richard Heron, A Queen's Ranger. She was born in 1810 and died in 1886. In 1832, William Fitzpatrick purchased the south half of lot 5, concession 4, in York east Township from the Canada Company. William Fitzpatrick granted on and one half acres of his farm for a Wesleyan Methodist Church and Cemetery.
It is not known how many of the Fitzpatrick family were interred in the family burial ground. Jane Fitzpatrick, William's sister, was buried there in 1837 and when Patrick died in 1856, he was buried there also. William wife Elizabeth died in 1886 and was buried at Zion-Wexford Cemetery and a new marker weas erected at that time. The marker is located at Row . #10. There are other markers to the Fitzpatrick family in that cemetery.
