The Forsyth family name may have originated in a local place name in Scotland as William de Ferseth was a balie (baliff) of Edinburgh in the 14th century - or it may have a more personal origin - Fearsethe meaning "Man of Peace." The first family of this name known to have settled in the Dock was the Allan Forsyths of Langholm, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.

Mrs. Allan Forsyth later returned to Scotland where she died in 1853. Allan Forsythe died on PEI in 1857 and is interred in the Old Dock Cemetery.

They had one known son, Allan Charles Scott. They lived on the Island for a time but returned to Scotland in 1839.

Lived in Scotland. He learned the printing trade in Edinburgh and for a time managed the printing department of "The Scotsman" and later was a joint manager of "The Edinburgh News." In 1855 he purchased "The Advertiser" and moved to Inverness. His first wife was Ann Ross of Edinburgh.
