Notes from Michael Rustad:

Joel Hemmingson was a key player in the formation of the Kittson County Museum located in Lake Bronson. He had a deep and abiding interest in historical artifacts and was a great collector in his own right. He was an expert in antique cars and machinery. His excitement about history was infectious and I remember that he seem to have unlimited time to explain how machinery worked to young kids. My Dad took us to the predecessors to the museum and I think I became interested in history from early trips to see Mr. Hemmingson's artifacts.

Joel Hemmingson was also a great hunter. He is pictured in the Centennial Edition of Kittson County yearbook with photos captioned: "Joel Hemmingson-Rabit Hunter. He is also pictured deer hunting with a group including: Glen Richardson, Harvey Olson, Lennie Olson, Harry Hanson Sr., Roy Larson and Bob Blomquist.
