Karlstad, Minn. - Henry Oscar Johnson, 88, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2003.
Henry Oscar Johnson, son of the late Henry A. and Betsy (Twistol) Johnson, was born April 20, 1915, in Roseau County, near Greenbush.
He attended school and grew to manhood in Pelan Township near Karlstad, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Henry worked at the Keine Farm near Kennedy for several years, and also farmed the family farm near Karlstad.
On June 29, 1957, Henry was united in marriage to Margaret Bakke Torkelson at Newfolden. He worked on road construction until 1967, and at Arctic Enterprises in Thief River Falls until retirement in 1978. Margaret died Jan. 22, 1986, and Henry continued to make his home on the farm. He was an avid trapper over the years.
He is survived by one son, David (Tammie), Karlstad; step-daughter: Janice, Mrs. Mike Hylden, Fridley; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters: Joan Fugleberg, Greenbush, and Betty Okins, Brooklyn Center; one brother: Lionel (Boots), Thief River Falls; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Henry was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one step-daughter, Genevieve, four brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, First Lutheran Church, Karlstad.
Pastor Gary Halverson officiated.
Pallbearers were Bradley Johnson, Wade Johnson, Wally Johnson, Danny Frazier, Todd Porter and John Gilbertson.
